| Physical Description | Nyx is a tall, slim woman who is stronger than her frame may suggest. She wears her hair longer and either in a series of hairdos held with decoative hairpins or in a ponytail that spreads out past her shoulders. A three-chevroned arrowhead tattoo graces each of her cheekbones from the bottom of her ear to the corner of the eyes. Due to her species, when under extreme stress or concentration, her hair and tattoos glow a deep, dark purple. |

History
| Personal History | 2373:The United Federation of Planets made its presence known on the world of Tial. In the year 2374 on the planet Tial, a very normal dark-haired girl of the Sentar class was born to two equally dark-haired adults. There were no portents, nothing special happened, it was a birth like any other. She was named Nyx'e'Trixe and seemed to be destined to a life of ordinariness. Five years later, during the Choosing, one of the first that involved any other than the blonde-headed Korashe, Nyx was 'drafted' into service to the goddess Beya'dand, Mistress of Death and War, then was taken away from her parents, who put up no fuss at all. It was, after all, the way of things on Tial. Within three months, Nyx had picked up her first implements of war and had already gotten used to pain and blood. Seven years ahead, at the age of thirteen, two years ahead of the 'normal' for even the Korashe, Nyx passed the trials and was granted the rank of Priestess First Class, obtaining her first ceremonial tattoo of an arrowhead with a single chevron to it. The day after, she was sent to the battlefront where she commanded a company-sized unit for the state of Prel'i'Grash in their war against Mira'i'Nilin. Two days later, Nyx killed her first enemy, at the age of thirteen, the first of many to come. Her best friend, Cora'e'Soleri, was killed in that battle. Of the seventeen other Sentar that were Chosen into the service of Beya'dand, Nyx and one other still survived, the other one still in training. She was picked up by one of the higher-ranking priestesses of the Order as a student, against all tradition and public opinion, a Korashe named Tria'a'neth ti'Dorand, Light of the Northern Reach. Five years later, hundreds of combats and much persecution later, Nyx was Elevated to a Priestess Third Class by her mentor herself. 2391: Tial is accepted as a Protectorate of the United Federation of Planets. In 2391, Tria, Light of the Northern Reach, had seen the light on what was happening on Tial, that things were getting better, but that it would take several decades for the world to truly accept. With the meteoric rise of Nyx through the ranks of the Order, the fact that she was still the only non-Korashe priestess, resentment had set in and one assassination attempt had been foiled, other threats had been headed off before they had gotten that far. Tria sent Nyx offworld and into Starfleet Academy under the rules of a Protectorate of the Federation, but that appointment had to wait for the next year while Nyx went through an intense language course to learn Federation Standard. When she arrived in San Francisco at the Academy, Nyx'e'Trixe, who had chosen the surname of Valentine when asked what she would like it to be, had her second major decision to make: What did she want her career path to be. Her faith in her beliefs and the training she'd had gave her one of two choices that would be a natural fit, but she chose the Marines instead of Security because of the perceived aggressiveness. Her first two years at the Academy almost ignored the fact of that choice, as she needed to take a very intense series of remedial courses to bring her relatively up to date on the many various aspects of her education that her training as a war priestess didn't. In her 'true' Freshman year at the Academy, Nyx became one of the top competitors of several of the Academy's combat teams, including unarmed, pistol, rifle, archery and sword-combat teams, also joining the Track team for a few events. Her Sophomore year saw her as the Captain of the unarmed combat team, being a major player on the other teams as well. She was the champion four years running in sword combat, as well as either number one or two in each of the other combat teams and setting a record for distance in unaided ballistic rifle shooting. In a rare, but not unheard of, occurrence, when she graduated from the Academy, her time in combat, command and training on Tial garnered her the rank of First Lieutenant instead of the normal Second Lieutenant and was assigned to several ships, but never made it to any of them before being reassigned, until she ended up on the Wellington |
