Location: Main Bridge
Timeline: June 18, 2399 @ 1459
BEGIN
Ensign Laro was at the conn, about to be relieved for the coming shift. Things were still a bit all over the place for her liking, but she figured she'd manage. It's not like they were en route anywhere yet. There would be a considerable amount of repairs and work that would have to be overseen by engineers. But the way it sounded, the current mission was over. At a hell of a cost.
Calypso sidled up next to Laro and patted her on the shoulder, "Looks good, Ensign, but I can take over from here.." The blonde Lieutenant grinned at her, all but bumping the junior officer out of the chair with her hip after Laro had keyed off, then punched in her own codes for takng over the conn.
As everyone was taking their positions, Jason walked onto the bridge with Michelle behind him. He looked over at everyone, and then announced Michelle's presence. "Captain on the Bridge!" he called as everyone suddenly stopped what they were doing
Eithout any conscious thought, Cally jumpedbout of her chair and into a position of attention that Major Delvin would have (finally) been proud to see after a couple years of trying, turning towards where the Captain (Yup, four pips) and the Commodore (What was HE doing here?) Had just entered, "Yes..." She hissed, recognizing the promotion for Michelle.
The twin forms of Rostra Tang stood as the announcement was made. One slid a glance towards the two and couldn't help but break a little smile.
Michelle returned said little smile as she walked towards the chair she had spent most of the last little while being reluctant to occupy. She still didn't do it, yet... She looked at Jack before addressing the crew. "As you were." she said. "Oh... Jack... I need to see you in my ready room in a few moments. Right now, I need to speak to the crew."
Jack nods and stepped into her ready room, leaving her to address her proper crew.
Michelle then pressed a button that emitted the "Announcement" whistle. "All hands... This is the Captain." She paused, letting those words sink in for just a moment, even for herself. "We've been through a lot the last 3 days. We've faced a grim reminder of the hazards that await us out here, and of the fact that not everyone is a person to be trusted. 20 Marine officers are in custody along with 10 Security staff for ties to the Organization. And Admiral Marquette has assured me they will answer severely for their crimes. Lo'Mah and Gul Kasella are being transferred as we speak to another vessel where they will also await trial for their heinous act." she said as she walked from station to station on the bridge, around the chair.
"Arrangements are underway for the memorial to the Senior Staff. The Acting Chiefs promoted following their deaths are now appointed to full Senior Staff and heads of their departments, and I expect they will be given the courtesy and respect due those positions as such. We will handle the formal change of command ceremony at a time more appropriate once we have had time to mourn our predecessors." she added as she came to the chair, which she leaned on.
"It may be easy to think that we've lost. That the Organization was right and that we are weak. It may be easy to believe that we really have been weakened and we need to get tougher. That is true. But despite all their meddling, all their attempts to deceive and undermine the Federation and its allies, it is worth remembering that the Organization in its mad lust for power and to make its point did little more than undermine itself by unknowingly aligning themselves with their mortal enemy. And that we resolved the crisis we faced by sticking to our principles and acting in good faith. It worked for the people of Branex who elected a leader 8 years after their liberation that intends to apply for membership in the Federation. And those principles worked for all of those who we have encountered and helped. This is not the time to be afraid, or to overreact. I don't know how we're going to deal with some of these worries we have, but we will. And I hope in doing so, we will justify the faith that Captain Ross placed in all of us. Commander Tang and I thank you all for your efforts, and for your service during these last few days that I hope we never have to repeat again. Thank you for your time. Bartlett out." she said before taking the chair.
"Well, Skippy, I think I speak for some people that I don't know, not to mention myself, that I think we're going to be better off than we were before." Calypso chuckled, "Unless you're another Cardassian?" Her eyes shifted left and right in an obvious attempt at humor.
"Not last I checked." Michelle said with a laugh. "Set course for New Earth, Warp 7. Let's get on with with this. I have to speak with Mr. Wade... Commander, you have the bridge." she said, looking at Rostra.
Rostra gave a pair of nods to acknowledge. "I have the Bridge." and the pair of them took a seat each to the left of the Captain's central chair. Rather than the single chair, there were a pair. Dalacari tech was impressive indeed. Two-Chair upgrade.
"Steady as she goes. Hoist the mizzenmast. Jib the topsail." the Dalacari said with a pair of smiles, clearly in good spirits.
"Hoisting and jibbing!" Cally called out with a laugh, "Rudder is amidships and heading straight on 'till Morning."
