Blink and You Miss It

Mission: https://wellington.pegasusfleet.site/index.php/sim/missions/id/4
Location: Operations Office

The doors of the Ops offices opened, and allowed the Blink Fighter pilot, Koh, entry. The black furred rabbitoid took a look around as he entered, a PaDD under a hand as he walked in. To the first crewhand in the office, he turned and gave a smile, "Good welcome. My name is Koh, and I'm looking for someone to help me with a bit of an issue. Turns out my Blink Fighter has technology that isn't in the Federation database." he said, completely unsurprised by this.

"Just need to know who I have to talk to to update your databases, so that if I have to fabricate parts or simulate it in a V-Room, it's accurate."

"A V-Room?" Garcia asked, a little perplexed.

Koh shook his head slightly, "Sorry, I'm still getting used to Federation terms. A V-Room is a virtual room, a simulation of sorts. I think your term for it is a ... a hollow room. No, no a holoroom." he corrected. "Though, now that I said it, Hollow Room does sound rather ominous."

"Ah! I know what you mean." Garcia replied. "I can get it added for you. Do you need any security restrictions for it? Any classified data nobody should have access to?"

Koh gave a nod and a smile at the mutual understanding. "Well, I think for the moment it's alright but, the trick is the Blink Fighter uses technology that isn't part of the Federation's system and, I was looking to get a little help adding those systems to your system." he explained. "So, I guess it's classified in a sense, but I've been allowed to discuss them." at that, he smirked.

Garcia returned the smirk. "I can certainly assist with that. I'll need a look at the blink fighter though."

"Well I've got the boring old schematics here, or I could escort you to the fighter bay and introduce you to her personally?" he offered...

-- Fighter Bay --

"And there she is. The Ichiga class Blink Fighter, or Type One in Federation speak. Sleek, slender, invisible to radio based detection systems, clean traverse from atmo to vacuum environments. Hydrogen pulse turbine engines for atmosphere, singular impulse drive for otherwise." he motioned to the sleek craft as they approached. "The core of the drive is the Blink unit, a high performance sublight engine that powers most of the critical systems and can propel the craft, for a fraction of a second, to about eighty or so percent light speed."

Garcia looked at the fighter, admiring it. "This is incredible." she said. "And I'd love to see how one of those works."

"The technology behind it is the new addition to your database. The drive itself and the systems that keep the pilot alive during the motion. The power reactor is heavy muon decay, which is pretty standard to most sublight craft. Your databases had no trouble with that system. It's the actual Blink Drive, along with the inertial nullifiers, that gave it a bit of a puzzle." he continued. "It suggested a substitute of inertial compensators, but these aren't compensating." he chuckled, "They're nullifying."

"Understandable. Our computer probably doesn't understand what you're trying to replicate." Garcia replied. "I'll have a look at it." she added as she started running a tricorder and a scanning device over it. "This seems almost more complex than our systems. And yet in some ways, not."

"Well, Miss Hailey of the Engineering Corps is working on keeping her powered. We use slightly different power sources than you do, but luckily the Dalacari went along the same lines as you. We work close with them, so a lot of our power feeds can adapt to their power output for recharging the reactor pool." Koh explained, while taking her on a tour around the perimeter of the craft. "See, we never abandoned our sublight propulsion, and our Dark reactors can only be miniaturized so small before it loses any real effect. So we have two classes of craft: Sublight ships with Blink drives, and beyond light ships with Dark drives." he held out each hand, like a scale, as he spoke.

"Blink shuttles are great for local transit. Going from moon to moon, hop on a blink and go. For further commerce or commute, there's almost always a Dark ship in orbit heading someplace. Shuttles dock, everyone gets to some assigned quarters for the trip, and they go." he explained, "Like clockwork, really. Well, when it works."

"So yeah, that's life in the Empire, in a nutshell. Go from place to place, hop a shuttle or three, and when you reach a certain age you serve in the service of the Empire. After that, you either stay enlisted or go home. Get a job or help the family. You know, the basics." he smirked.

"Sounds fun." Garcia replied. "You decided not to go home?"

He shook his head, "My squad took a beating repelling the Klingons and the Cardassians from the Dalacari station. Enough that they were to be disbanded and redistributed. So I was left with a choice. Well, more like an option or two. I could shuffle in with another wing, start around the middle of the ranks, and build back up to Red." a pause, "Red is a sign of a wing leader. I was 'Red Bishop' back on the carrier." he explained.

"So, either that, or offer my services as a fighter here with your group. Yeah, I'd start off at the bottom but no better way to learn about people then start fresh. Considering that the Empire and the Republic both are looking to throw in with the Federation of Planets, no better way to learn than to join."

Then that smirk of his grew into a smile, "Plus... I heard that you guys could use an ACTUAL pilot so... figured I'd do you a favor." he chuckled. "You, being the Wellington. Not you you. But you know, if you need a favor..." he gave her a wink.

Garcia laughed a little. "It's been quiet since Commander Lawson's team left, I'll give you that." she added. "Besides... Out here can be more fun."

"Just means we'll get a new team eventually, but until then, I'll keep you safe." he chuckled. "You, being the Wellington... and you too." he smirked and was silent for a moment before he turned his attention back to the Blink fighter, "So, tell me where you'd like to start, and we'll go from there."

"We should probably start with critical systems, and then move our way to non-essential and hull parts." Garcia said. "Should take a couple hours tops to get everything into the database."

Koh gave a nod, "Well then, let's start at the nose."
