It's All Yellow

Mission: https://wellington.pegasusfleet.site/index.php/sim/missions/id/4
Location: Sickbay

Despite her exhaustion and complete lack of sleep, Siobahn had reported to sickbay on time. The first hour had been spent sanitizing sickbay, again... no matter how many times she did it of late there seemed to always be stray hairs and items out of place. But regardless, she did it again and again. As she worked she chatted idly to Eries, largely about Aurore, the little girl she had come to adore, and her most recent activities aboard the ship, thankfully none of which included dragon hunting!

It was mid sentence when the yellow strobe lights started flashing. Immediately Siobahn looked across at Eries, largely because she knew she was going to be relying on the experience of the other woman. "It's yellow alert, I know it's not panic stations... do we just sit and wait?" she asked quietly.

"Oui, Madame Docteur," Eries confirmed, bustling over to one of the cabinets and sliding open a drawer, checking over what was in it, then sliding it shut and repeating with the next, "All we have to do is to make sure everysing is in place and ready for if something does happen. While I don't think anything is going wrong right now, we may also receive injuries from anozher source, such as natural disaster on a planet." She was satisfied with the results from that set she was checking and side-stepped to the next.

"Well, lets just hope this is all a false alarm," Siobahn replied uneasily. "I guess this is where being in sickbay is a down side, we are probably going to be the last to find out what's going on out there..."

"Zat is true, Madame Docteur, however it does give us a chance to be ready for whatever is going to come at us." Eries smiled softly, completely calm, even as she snagged one of the complete medical kits and set it up on a table next to one of the biobeds, "And in any case, what can we do about it, even if we were on ze bridge? Watch and wait?" She shrugged.

"At least on the bridge we'd have an idea of what's goin' on," Siobahn replied with a nervous laugh as she followed suit in preparing another bio bed ready for use. She had barely set the medical kit on the counter when the ship suddenly lurched violently, almost knocking them both off their feet.

"Damnú!" Siobahn exclaimed as she steadied herself before looking back at Eries. "Are you okay?" she asked, wincing slightly herself as the lighting levels lowered slightly and the emergency lighting changed from yellow to red as the klaxons simutaneously started.

"Bridge to sick bay. Prepare for incoming casualties."

The communication from the bridge closed almost as soon as the words were spoken. "Well I guess this is it," Siobahn said quietly as sickbay doors opened and the first of their casualties walked in.

"Oui, Madame." Eries hurried over to the first man in, then gently took the arm he was favoring and, felt the wrist gently, "Perhaps a broken wrist, Madame, or a bad sprain. Nozzhing major." She smiled at the guy, ushering him over to the biobed, "Ze shock to ze ship, leaning on it?" She asked, getting a pained nod in response. The French nurse looked over to Siobahn, "Thees should not be bad overall, no major traumas should come in. Eet is a good thing, Madame, I don't know how the new docteur would handle it and Major Weston is not here."

"I wouldn't know, I've not met her yet," Siobahn replied as she waited until Eries had the patient settled. Palpating his wrist carefully, Siobahn shook her head. "I don't think it's broken but we will scan it with a tricorder, just to be sure. Eries, can you please load a hypo with a mild analgesic? I don't think anything more will be necessary." Grabbing the medical tricorder, Siobahn scanned his wrist before treating him with a dermal regenerator to heal the trauma to the wrist.

By the time the first patient had been healed and Eries had updated medical records for his treatment, they had five more waiting to be tended to. All injuries were minor, ranging from bruises and sprains, a broken bone and the most serious of which appeared to be a minor burn from an overloaded circuit.

Pausing for just a moment, Siobahn watched as Eries worked efficiently, triaging each patient and making sure they were comfortable before moving onto the next, reporting back to Siobahn between each with a brief overview of each patient's situation. She was an incredible nurse, that was for sure.

With a quick smile, Siobahn made a mental note to make sure that that was reported back to Lieutenant Lin after things had calmed down again and moved onto the next patient.

Eries made it to the last patient in waiting and made sure she would be in a position to know when someone else came in, then started back through the patients from the most recent to make it into the sickbay, working from one end of the patients on her way back to Siobahn. Throughout it all, Eries had a warm smile on, speaking soothing words, some of them barely understandable through her heavy French accent. Finally she made it back to Siobahn, the last one leaving through the door, arm in a sling, "Not too bad so far, is it, Madame?"

"I'll admit, it could have been much worse for my first ever live red alert," Siobahn replied with an easy laugh. "I'm goin' to go out on a limb and assume that this was quite mild compared to some you've seen?" Moving around sickbay, Siobahn started gathering up the last of the equipment that they had used, putting it through the replicator to be recycled before setting the bio beds to into sterilisation mode.

"Oui, I have seen a couple issues before, especially when Lafayette went to Dreyel for their disaster. A rogue planet was passing through their system and the planet had significant seismic instability issues during the passage. We responded to it and it was... Bad, Madame." Eries nodded, remembering, "Their death toll was horrific, but worse than that were the injured. Dreyel is stable again, but the injuries were horrible."

"I can't even begin to imagine," Siobahn said quietly. "They didn't have much in the way of real disasters for us to deal with at the academy and somehow the holodeck simulations were never really the same, knowing it was just all make believe." Instinctively she leaned in and hugged the other woman quickly and smiled. "I think we deserve a break while there's no one here, can I get you a cup of tea? Coffee? Hot chocolate?"

"Tea, s'il vous plait, chamomile if you would not mind?" Eries asked, "It helps to keep things calmed down and settled and has a wonderful scent as well."

Replicating a chamomile tea and a mocha latte, Siobahn carried the mugs carefully back across the room, handing one over to Eries. One of the first things she learned doing her field pracs through the academy was that the nursing staff were always without fail the most important part of the medical department and she had made it a point to always show her appreciation. Replicating a mug of tea was hardly a grand gesture, but it was the small things that counted. Blowing across the top of her mug for a moment before taking a sip, Siobahn sighed contentedly. "The taste of coffee is startin' to grow on me," she said with a laugh. "But now if I could just kick off my boots and put my feet up I'd be in heaven!"

"Coffee is one of those things I have never gotten used to, Madame." Eries smiled as she took a sip of the extremely hot tea, "Eet smells so good, tastes so horrid. The caffeine, however, is a wonderful thing, but I have some lovely infused teas that do ze job well enough. And son enough, we will be able to sit back and relax, see, the ship has stopped shaking already!"

“Thank goodness for that! And to be honest, until I came out here I felt much the same about coffee, smells wonderful but the taste is so bitter. But it has heaps of caffeine and I seem to be survivin’ on that at the moment! Mixin' it with chocolate helps improve the taste an awful lot, so it’s nearly bearable.” Siobahn laughed as she took another sip of her drink.

"Perhaps try one of my blends?" Eries suggested, strolling over to the replicator and punching in a few buttons, glancing over, then another couple, a steaming cup of tea materializing. "Eet is an orange and lemon flavored black tea, fortified with a double dose of caffeine to equate to a cup of coffee, There is a tiny hint of cinnamon too, Madame, but sometimes I prefer mint instead."

Setting her mocha latte down, Siobahn took a sip of the tea, her eyes widening with surprise. “It really isn’t all that bad,” she said with a smile. But please, call me Siobahn.”

"Madame?" Eries spluttered briefly, this was not the normal at all and even when Capt- No, Major Weston had insisted on it, Eries had taken a while to adjust to it, "Shi-von." She grimaced at the pronunciation and tried again, "Shi-von." And blushed deeply, "Pardon, madame, my accent..."

“Is perfectly fine,” Siobahn replied reassuringly, taking another sip of the tea. “So what’s the new doctor like? I am assumin' she doesn’t like us juniors, she’s avoided me so far.”

"I have not interacted with her yet, Shi-von," Eries shook her head in frustration at the 'b' sound she could not seem to make properly, I saw her in passing in main sickbay, but after that? No, and I am not a fan of her ferret, or weasel, or whatever eet is, not in sickbay. I understand that they can be trained, but unless they have no hair, no claws and no mouth, they can spread disease just by their presence... Things that don't affect them can infect us, I do not like it."

“Oh... she seriously brings a weasel into sickbay?” Siobahn’s voice trailed off momentarily. “Well, aside from the ick factor, it sure explains why I keep findin' stray hairs when I come on shift. Really? Why would any doctor think an animal in sickbay is acceptable?” She took another sip of the tea and set the cup down, wincing as she moved. Yes, she was really starting to feel some of those muscles and bruises.

Eries set her own cup down as she noticed the wince, "Madame, are you okay?" She asked reflexively, reaching for the tricorder on her belt, flipping it open with practiced ease, "Mon dieu, Shi-von, you are covered with half-healed bruises! What have you been doing?" She reached for a dermal regenerator and gave Siobahn an imperious look that warned her to stay right where she was.

Siobahn laughed and shook her head. “Lets just say I have a new personal trainer and she doesn’t believe in slacking off. Honestly, it’s fine. A long hot shower and I won’t feel a thing, I just didn’t get time for a good soak before coming on duty today. I haven’t felt it all day but now that I’ve stopped... it’s just because I’ve relaxed is all.”

"And you can have that nice long, hot shower once I am done with you, Madame." Eries said firmly, "I am going to heal these... Things before they get worse! And you will be careful, Madame, or else I will give your 'personal trainer' a stern talking to!"

“Honestly, you don’t have to worry about me! Surely there is somethin' more important you can worry about!” Siobahn protested. "I'll be fine with a good soak after I finish in here. I'll go back to my quarters and put my feet up. I have a heap of study to catch up on anyway, so some quiet down time will be welcomed," she finished with an easy grin.

Eries gave her a look so flat, it put a crepe to shame, then she patted the biobed, "Madame, up here, s'il vous plait." It was a gentle voice, one that was used to convincing people that they would be all right, not to mention recalcitrant children. The unmistakable quiet command.

With a scowl like that of a chastened child, Siobahn begrudgingly sat on the edge of the bio bed. “You can’t half tell you’re a Momma,” she finally replied. “Only a momma uses that tone of voice.”

"Aurore is a very well-behaved child, but she does get rather mischievous at times." Eries reached and undid Siobahn's jacket and slid it off, "Mon dieu... Did someone take a baseball bat to you, Shi-van?"

Siobahn winced at the movement. “It really isn’t all that bad, it’s just a few bumps.” She shrugged it off nonchalantly. “It’ll get easier, I just gotta learn to be quicker on my feet,” She finished with a laugh.

Sighing, Eries got to work with the dermal regenerator,, tracing over each of the bruises as they were healing, "Eef you are going to do this thing, you must take proper care of yourself... You are a Docteur, remember?"

There was a long moment of silence before Siobahn finally replied. “Believe it or not, this is part of me takin' care of myself,” she said quietly.

Eries opened her mouth as if to argue, but the tone of voice which Siobahn used made her close her mouth again, "If you say so, Madame." She said softly, finishing up the last bruise, "Zer you go, all better now."

Moving her shoulders, Siobahn breathed a sigh of relief and then laughed. "It certainly feels better, thanks. And I promise I'll be more careful in the future!"

"Excellent, Madame Shi-von, I vill hold you to that." Eries smiled fondly, seeing the red lights flash once more, then back to yellow, "And it looks like the main crisis may be over."

"Well, let's just hope that there are no more casualties for us to deal with!" Siobahn laughed as she jumped from the biobed, setting it to self clean again. "I think we've had enough excitement for one day!"

"Ze boring days are certainment better on a daily basis." Eries agreed, "Too much excitement ust causes far too much stress."

"Yes, and I don't know about you, but I certainly don't need any extra stress in my life right now," Siobahn replied easily. "I already have plenty of that to go around!"

"Oui, you do!" Eries smiled, "With Docteur Weston always busy and not even on board right now? At least I know where my Pierre is, even if I cannot be with him all the time."

Siobahn shook her head. "I don't know how you do it," she replied quietly. "A couple of days has made be crazy enough worrying about everythin'... I don't know how you go as long as you do bein' apart. Isn't it hard?"

"It is, Shi-von, harder on Aurore than on myself I suspect, but we both understand that it is part of being a member of Starfleet." Eries shrugged, "But we make up for the time apart whenever we are togezzer."

With a laugh, Siobahn nodded slowly. "I can see how that would help make up for at least some of it. Aurore is a well adjusted girl, and sharp as a tack, I'm sure she understands."

"She is, Madame, far too bright for her own good at times, I'm afraid, constantly getting into things she should not be." Eries laughed, "The ozzer day she managed to replicate a bowl of chocolate puff cereal the size of a kitchen sink! Ate most of it, too."

"How sick did she feel after? I remember doing that when I was about her age, my parents were far from impressed either! By the time I got to the academy it became a semi regular occurrence," Siobahn replied, still laughing.

"She was sick as a dog! I let her suffer as a lesson in life. And zen, later that night, she had to finish the bowl for her dinner." Eries smiled slyly, "I don't think she'll want that cereal ever again, perhaps stick with something a bit more healthy and... In less quantity."

"Oh, poor Aurore..." Siobahn couldn't help but giggle. "At least it was only chocolate cereal, it could have been much worse!" The hiss of the doors to sickbay opening made Siobahn look up as another crew member walked in, holding his arm, his shoulder sitting awkwardly. Looking back at Eries, Siobahn smiled. "Look, your shift is pretty much over, I'll take care of this one and clean up here, why don't you go home and give that gorgeous girl of yours a cuddle," she said warmly, not waiting for an answer before jumping to her feet and moving in to greet the new patient.

"Merci, Madame." Eries smiled softly, "But if you decide you need me back, do not hesitate to call!"
