The trip to the Wellington was uneventful for her. T'Krya was still a bit startled by being hand picked for this special assignment. Of course she was going to miss her friends and her old Gryphon, but to be a part of a new and special squadron was almost to true to be, but it was true and she was happy.
She quickly stowed her gear and strolled out onto the fighter deck and saw the Gryphons in all their splendor. Walking among them, she noticed they had names on them. When she saw the name, "No Mercy" on one, she payted its fuselage and said, " You will be my baby", and continued to check that fighter. She was a beauty and had more equipment than her old one. Before heading to the CAG's office she again stood in front of "No Mercy", and a small grin rose from her mouth, 'Mine, baby girl', she thought and left the hanger stopping only in front of the CAG's office. Hitting the door chime, she patiently waited, orders in hand.
"Come in!" was the reply.
T'Kyra strolled in smiling and looked at the man in front of her.
Jack looked up and smiled, rising to his feet and offering a hand in greet. "Well met, Lieutenant. I've been looking forward to your arrival."
Taking his hand, "You are? Well yes I guess you are, however this is still a bit confusing to me as to why. Admiral Sampson picked me out of my squadron and sent me here...oh sorry sir...here are my orders...", she said handing him the PADD.
His handshake was friendly and warm. Once offered he took the papers and gave them a quick once-over, signing off on them. "Yes, my previous second in command was called away, and I'm looking for someone to replace him. I hand picked you from the list of candidates. You're dedicated, loyal, well organized and have proven yourself a capable pilot as well as flight leader over the past years. Other than that I believe you to be someone who isn't afraid to speak up when you believe to be right, and that's exactly the kind of second I need in my squadron. Oh, and, call me Jack when we're off duty. Or Hammerhead, that's my callsign."
"Thankyou Commander. Coming from you, that is a compliment indeed. If I may be bold in asking you this, before I came directly to you, I swung by the fighters and I saw you had the newer Gryphons. As I looked, one caight my eye, or rather the name did. She is named 'No Mercy', and my previous fighter was named 'Executioner' and I do have a reputation for being un merciful when flying in battle. I was wondering if you might allow me to fly 'No Mercy' as my fighter. Oh, and most of the crew called me 'Hunter' when off duty. We had a very close knit unit that we all were family so names weren't used, only our call signs", she said. "As for being your second in command, I welcome the challenge amd opportunity to prove worthy of your trust and confidence", she added.
He smiled. "As it just so happens, it was No Mercy's pilot who was called away, so she's yours." He then offered her a PADD. "Here's a rundown of the new Gryphon's stats and numbers. She's a heavy fighter, modular design, built to be survivable and have a surplus of firepower. She can take two option pods, options ranging from weapons to sensors to SAR equipment. I've added a simulator program to the holodeck, would ask you to familiarize yourself with the ship quick as you can. I'll see about arranging some actual stick time once the Wellington has some down time."
T'Krya nearly fainted when he said that 'No Mercy' would be hers. "Commander...I don't know what to say! Merciful heavens...and the newer Gryphon at that. She is, just by looking at her, she is a beauty and not much different in several ways. I do note however she won't be as maneuverable when fully loaded opposed to neing ligjt for a warp fighter. But in any case she is a formidable machine. How are you fixed for mechanics?", she added. She had someone in mind. A NOC chief petty officer who is almost a genius with Gryphons.
"Yeah she's not as agile as an interceptor, but she's agile enough. She doesn't have as much firepower as a dedicated bomber, but she's got enough. That's the whole design philosophy behind her, a one-size-fits-all multirole fighter to cut down on logistics while still maintaining a capable fighting force. We're alright for mechanics for now, but truth be told, I'd rather have a surplus rather than just be alright. Of course, I'd need to vet any mechanic before giving them access to the new fighter and its technologies, that goes without saying." He mused, leaning back. "Did you have someone in mind?"
" Yes sir I do. He was the chief mechanic who worked mainly on my fighter and two others. He was able to jury rig my fighter so I could return to my pilots. In my opinion he is one of the best. He loves them like they were his children so to speak. He is literally married to his job", she said smiling.
"Well, forward me his name and station and I'll see if he'd make a good addition to the team." Jack gave a nod. He rose to his feet with a smile, offering a hand. "Welcome aboard, Hunter. Glad to have you. Get settled into your new quarters, meet the team, familiarize yourself with your new ride. Should keep you busy for a while."
"Oh hell yeah Commander I shall. You might be surprised if I ask to do that flight sim soon", she said, as she took his hand and then snapped a salute before she left.
