Location: Marine CO's Office
Andi had enjoyed her casual stroll through the ship as she made her way to the Marine CO's office. Judging by the eye candy she had seen so far, she was definitely going to enjoy her time on this ship, that was for sure, but for right now there was only one person she was really wanting to set eyes on, and that was Hailey Weston.
There was no doubt that Andi had been skeptical when she had been given her transfer orders, after all, the delta quadrant wasn't really the place for a raider worth her salt to improve her career prospects, but the sight of Hailey's name in the command chain had certainly swayed her mind. It had been far too many years indeed since their paths had crossed and a sixth sense told Andi that the fact that destiny was sending her to team up with Hailey again meant that big things were coming. Though it was entirely probable that Hailey wouldn't have even recognised her name on the crew manifest even if she had already been notified of the staff changes. She had not been a Deik when she joined the marines, the change of name had been a somewhat new, although somewhat brief, development.
Leaning against the door frame of the Marine CO's office, Andi grinned easily as she cast a silent gaze over the other woman who was studying a PADD in front of her, an expression that could best be described as a grimace on her face. "Well I'll be damned, you are still alive. Looks like Mikhailov owes me a drink!"
“Well, Mikhailov has always been somewhat of an idiot.” Hailey sighed, glancing up very briefly, “And no one has kill-ed...” She had recognized the person from the brief glance, at least they’d looked familiar and that caused her to shudder to a halt as her eyes went back up over the woman’s body and up to her face as her thoughts raced to recognize her and it came to her, “Andi?” Her eyes flicked to the standard name patch over the left chest that Marines wore for certain unpalatable reasons, read Dreik, then back to the face, “Andi?” She repeated again.
Andi's grin broadened. "In the flesh... It's been a while, but don't tell me you've forgotten me already!" She chuckled as she stepped into the office and made a beeline for a seat.
Hailey was around the desk and intercepted Andi before she made it to the chairs and wrapped the younger woman in a hug, one of the young ones she’d trained oh those four years ago when she’d come to Hailey’s team. “Damn it’s good to see you again!” She released her, “Dreik, though? What happened? Did you really dislike your name that much?”
Returning the hug, Andi laughed and shook her head. "Nah, thought I'd try my hand at being grown up and responsible, you know, get married, settle down, maybe get my mother off my back for a while..."
“And it didn’t work out?” Hailey knew the story, it was really hard for Raiders to be in a stable long-term relationship. For one, life expectancy wasn’t great, but the job was tough, took them away from ‘home’ too much, then also took a psychological toll even when they got out. “And you convinced someone that they should send you out here when you got bored?” She plopped into one of the chairs in front of the desk.
"You know what it's like, most guys are threatened by girls who like to blow things up. We made it 10 days, not a bad record considering we didn't leave the bedroom for the first seven." She laughed and sank down into the chair next to Hailey. "But hey, I can't let you have all the fun out here!"
Hailey chuckled as well, “Actually, it’s really good to have you out here, though you’re here a week earlier than I expected. I have a guy named Chavez running the booms right now, but he’s nothing like you! I’ve been quietly trying to pull in some old friends, without much effect, but you remember Ami, right?”
"Of course I remember Ami! Don't tell me she's out here too?!" Andi's face lit up with recognition. "Though I should have known she wouldn't be too far from your side," she stated with a wink.
“She is And we have someone you won’t be able to believe, I’ll have to introduce you to Nyx personally.” Hailey shook her head with a laugh, “It’s not the fun and games though, were trying to bring along some potentials, because we aren’t getting brought up to full strength.. The former MXO mutinied with half of the original contingent and they wanted to scratch the entire unit here.”
Andi's expression became somber. "I had heard some stories about what had been happening out here. I guess bad news travels far and wide. To be honest, I welcome the change. The caliber of marines seems to be slipping back home, you wouldn't believe some of the namby pamby wanna-be's I've seen coming through the ranks, thinking they're Gods gift to all and sundry and expecting us to practically fall at their feet and worship them!" There was a hint of annoyance in her voice as she spoke. 'Oh, I'm so smart, I can blow up a tin can with a stick of C4, aren't I clever, promote me!' she mimicked.
Hailey snot eyed a laugh, “They do seem to be about, don’t they? But with you here, I now have a solid sfour people and a couple really good potentials. Outside of Chavez and Ami, there are two guys named Rozhev and Seltegaard, you might not know them, then there’s a young Lance Corporal named Callen who seems to be a pretty good long rifle and then there’s Nyx.. You know me with pistols, well... I’ve beaten her precisely one time. And she’s just as good at middle and long range, snap shots, wind variables, ballistic and energy, then get her in close and she slices, dices and makes julienne fries with her swords.”
"Niiiiice..." Andi replied appreciatively. "Sounds like my kind of person! You know, I really think I'm gonna like it here after all," she finished with a grin. "Marines that know what they're doing, a few old friends and, hey, lets be honest, the 'talent' certainly isn't half bad from what I've seen so far!"
“Slut!” Hailey coughed into her hand, smiling throughout. Andi had usually been rather randy in the past, which was why Hailey had been surprised she’d even somewhat settled down even just for ten days, “You know I bat for the other team, but I’ve seen a worse selection, ya know. And most of the crew doesn’t even seem to have a horrid view of we grunts, either.”
Andi just laughed at Hailey's remark. "Hey, if you got it, you may as well flaunt it and have some fun in the process!" She paused for a moment, tipping her head to one side slightly and just watching Hailey in silence. "You know, I'm glad you're doing okay. It gives me hope."
The Major smiled, “Same with you, I was actually out here to work on my surgical skills, but after the Colonel’s death and the Major’s mutiny, Captain Bartlett pulled me back out of medical. I think it saved my sanity, because just sitting there waiting for people to get hurt? And hopefully this will throw a wrench into the plans the Corps has to turn me into the head surgeon of a damned fast hospital ship.”
“Hey, you know that wouldn’t be entirely terrible, just think you wouldn’t be taking your life in your hands every time you get out of bed, it would be a nice, calm, perfectly boring way to exist! And you never know, maybe you’ll meet someone and settle down and blah de blah....” Andi grinned.
“It’s rather quiet out here anyways, I only have to take my life in my hands every other day now.” Hailey winked at Andi, “But boring is well... Boring, but I’m running around all the time, dealing with you grunts, spending time in medical still to keep current, then time on the bridge on watches since I’m also the Second Officer on board the Wellington here.” She’d avoided the comment about meeting someone and settling down rather well, she thought.
“Uh huh..: if you say so...” Andi grinned as she leaned back in the seat and folded her arms across her chest. “So that’s it then?” She raised one eyebrow quizzically before shaking her head and laughing. “Gods Hailey, it’s good to see you again. It really is.”
"And here I was wondering what all Sergeant Dreik was going to bring with them..." Hailey shook her head, "Little did I know it was trouble on two legs! That'll teach me to look at personnel files right when I get warning orders that they're coming, won't it?"
“I just like to keep people on their toes!” Andi replied with a laugh. “Admit it, you know you’re glad to see me! I am not one of those namby pamby wanna be’s demanding to be the best of the very best because my Daddy’s second cousin’s next door neihhbour’d barber’s sister’s dog walker thinks I am a clever little cookie!”
Hailey leaned forward and patted Andi on the knee, "How could I not be happy to see you? I do want you to work with Chavez, see if you can teach him a few more of the tricks of the trade. Explosives tricks, that is." Hailey laughed, already figuring what would probably happen between the latino sergeant and Andi.
With a grin, Andi raised one eyebrow slightly. “Is he good looking?” She asked with a lascivious grin. “Because you know me, I am happy to share my tricks of the trade when it comes to making things go bang in the night!”
"Oh I know you, far too well." Hailey rolled her eyes, "You might think he is, but remember: Work first, THEN play, all right?"
With a teasing grin Andi leaned in and squeezed Hailey’s cheek affectionately. “You know, you really should find yourself a nice little toygirl, someone to take the edge off all that anxiety you have pent up... it will do wonders for your stress levels! Come to think of it, I passed a nice little blonde on my way here, want me to find her for you? I think she was wearing gold, maybe an engineer?”
"And cheat on Sio-Bahn... Shit." Hailey flushed a cherry red, "All right, all right, you caught me out, yes, I've found someone, yes I'm semi-sorta settling in with her and yes, she knows what I am, what I do and all that happy horse-hockey."
“I knew it!” Andi exclaimed with a laugh. She leaned forward expectantly, her eyes wide with anticipation. “So tell me about her? How did you meet? What does she do? What’s she like? C’mon, you gotta let me live vicariously! I’ll tell you what, you tell me about her and I will tell you all about K’hvoss, the Klingon I met on my way out here!”
"I don't WANT to know about this K'hvoss character." Hailey laughed, "But knowing you, you'll come about face and then threaten to tell me all about him if I don't tell you. So to answer your question, she's just a tad older than you, a doctor and absolutely gorgeous. I don't know what she sees in me, but there ya' have it."
Andi smiled, reaching out and grabbing Hailey’s hand, squeezing it quickly. “You sell yourself far too short, obviously she see's something she likes. Who knows, maybe the infamous Hailey Weston will finally be tamed!" Andi laughed as she stood up. "I'll leave you to it boss, I'm sure you have plenty to do, and it seems I have some old friends to catch up with. Drinks soon though?"
"Absolutely!" Hailey agreed, "I'll even bring Siobahn along so you can ogle her and dream on." She laughed.
With a laugh and a wave, Andi tossed a 'toodles!' back over her shoulder as she headed out into the corridor again. "Computer, locate Ami Rori."
