A Moment to Breathe

Mission: https://wellington.pegasusfleet.site/index.php/sim/missions/id/5
Location: Sickbay

The chaos in sickbay had subsided. Patients had been treated and the battle outside seemed to have lapsed, at least for now. Finally, the medical team had a chance to stop and catch their breath.

Abigail sank down onto the floor, leaning against the bulkhead, careful not to spill the mug of hot coffee she held carefully between her hands. Taking a sip, she rested her head back with an "Aaaahhhh" before looking around at the rest of the medical staff. "Well, we survived... but seriously, what the hell just happened?! Have we heard anything from the bridge yet?"

Walking back across to where the rest of the medical staff had gathered, Siobahn handed Eries one of her special blend teas and then handed a mug of English breakfast tea to Odelle before sinking down near Eries, sighing with relief at being off her feet finally. She sipped tentatively at her hot chocolate for a minute before speaking. "I don't think we've received any actual information as yet. What ever is going on is big. Major Weston got called out at the end of surgery for a command staff meeting. I don't know what's going on, but it doesn't sound good." She glanced around the small'ish gathering, wondering what gossip they had managed to pick up along the way. Often times it seemed that gossip was the quickest way for sickbay staff to find out anything.

"Well, Madames, what I know eez that Aurore is still staying with her friend and eez doing well." Eries shook her head, scrolling through the PADD in front of her, clearly through the vitals signals from the various filled biobeds, keeping an eye on the patients in them, then took a sip of the tea, "Merci, Madame. I'm not liking some of these injuries we've seen, they just seem odd."

Janice, was sitting on a bio bed at the far end of sick bay, not believing that there could be so many casualties at one time. Sure she had seen her share of casualties, but not like this and some were very unusual. Getting up, she walked to where her staff were sitting and sank down with them. "You all did good considering the amount of casualties that came in", she said smiling at them. "I have to admit that some of the injuries were quite unusual", she added.

"Peraps not unusual, Madame, and not as many as zere could have been." Eries shuddered at the comment she'd heard from one of the patients that their own sickbay had been hit, "Zee shrapnel that some of them had been hit with... Biological, Madame, with the hardness of metal. Even ze burn victims, zey weren't 'normal' burns."

"The burns were so wide spread though? Almost every patient through had burns to some degree. How would something like that even happen? I mean, sure, I can understand how a small group might have been injured in a similar way if they were all in the same place at the same time when it happened, but so many people from so many departments spread so widely across a ship? Were there many schrapnel injuries among the burns?" Siobahn asked glancing around the group.

"I saw more than I expected." Lin said as she sipped her tea. Ah. Just the way she liked it. "Shrapnel... It's as though someone just went full on against the other ship. Or perhaps an ambush." she added. "Even the Cho'Tegra and the Evolved don't leave marks like that." she added... "I hope we didn't just find ourselves dealing with some new problem in this quadrant."

"Well...there were certainly enough burns that looked so much alike that gave me the impression that someone had an advanced weapon that could deliver such burns like what we saw. Sure several had shrapnel from either their fighters or consoles but, like Dr. Lin said it might be a new problem in this quadrant, and possibly either a trap or ambush", said Janice.

Siobahn shook her head slowly before taking another sip of her hot chocolate. "No... what ever it was that they got hit with it wasn't from a fighter or a console. I removed a few fragments from one of the patients I triaged, I kept them aside because I didn't know what it was, but it looks the same as what I removed from Renee when I assisted with her surgery. It isn't like anything I have EVER seen before. I was going to ask the computer to do an analysis of it to see what it was."

"Now sounds like a plan", Janice said.

"We'll get started on that. Perhaps we can get the science team as well to assist in analyzing the materials." Lin replied. "One other thing... There was a stowaway on board. Did we ever deal with them?"

Siobahn shook her head slightly. "We had a stow away?" she asked, her eyes widening slightly.

Pushing herself away from the wall, Abigail scanned the biobeds quickly. "I assume you mean the guy who was faking it?" she asked. "Last I saw him he was on a biobed, that was right before everything went to hell in a handbasket!"

Lin pursed her lips together, thinking about everything that happened afterwards. "I had him sitting down somewhere so we could make room for someone actually hurt. Did we get any info about him?"

Abigail shrugged. "He was kind of good looking though. Do you think he was single?" she asked with an easy grin before taking a sip of her coffee.

Eries snorted with a laugh, "Madame!" She chided somehow, "I know I haven't seen him since, but we 'ave been rather busy."

"Come to think about it, I haven't seen him either. We got so busy so fast I lost track of him", Janice echoed Dr. Lin. "What was he all about anyway? I figured that he was faking his injuries", she added.

Siobahn cast a tentative glance around the room. "How about we split up and take a quick peek, see if we can find him anywhere?" she said quietly. "No point troubling security if we can sort this out ourselves. I'm sure he can't have gotten to far. Anyone want to volunteer to stay behind?"

"I will." Eries volunteered, "Eef something comes up, I will call for help, but I do not foresee anything." She smiled slightly, "And I can catch up on my reading."

"Well, there we go. Bottom's up ladies, when we're done we can split up and form our own little search party," Abigail said with a laugh. "It'll be a novel treat to get some adventure outside these walls!"

Siobahn grimaced slightly. Even though it had been her suggestion, roaming the ship looking for a runaway wasn't exactly her idea of fun. "I have a friend in Engineering," she finally said softly. "If I go see her maybe she'll have a way to track him that will save us some time."

"Well... I guess we have a patient to find. I'll notify Security as well." Lin replied "Who wants to join a search party?"
