Lamira was cautiously studying the PADD in front of her that her analyst had provided. The maps and orders had just updated, and while looking out the window could have easily given away the ship's status as it jumped to warp, Del already knew by looking at the PADD. They were en route to deal with something. It was either this Klingon-Dalacari Mess, or they'd been assigned as election observers to Branex. She didn't rule either out, especially given that the Commodore who was coming aboard had previously dealt with both. Though she suspected it had more to do with the Klingons.
"Suvir? Orders are updated." The Trill officer said. "I think we're going after the Klingons."
"I would be cautious to use the term 'going after', Lieutenant." Suvir said. "Primarily, our focus will likely be to mediate between the Klingons and the Dalacari for the return of their arrested Captain. I have been going over the logs that your department sent me from the USS Kiev. Are there further reports from other ships in the area?"
"Not at this time. Dalacari media and communications is rife with speculation about what took place." Del replied. "I dont know what chatter you're getting from your end."
"Military communications are being incredibly quiet." Suvir replied. "Although there are batallions of Ts'usugi prepared to mobilize if necessary. The overnight encryption team found several orders pertaining to ship movements around that area."
"Ts'usugi? By the Gods... that's the last thing we need." Del said. "I'll prepare the memo for Captain Ross."
"Continue to monitor all civilian sources and Starfleet information. I am attempting to see what I can find from the Klingons about this. So far it seems the High Council disavows the mission after the drones left Klingon space. Which is still a puzzling point at which to disavow." Suvir said.
"Do we know if the Klingons' military command ordered it to go beyond this?" Del asked.
"At this time, we do not." Suvir said.
"I'll continue to monitor the Dalacari side of things. There's a lot of information that seems to be getting filtered out of our regular dump of info." Del said. "Which is a little concerning."
"I would not regard it as concerning at all, Lieutenant." Suvir replied. "It is important to remember that the Dalacari know the Klingon Empire is an ally of the Federation. It would be a logical assumption that some elements in the Dalacari government are hesitant about sharing information freely with the Federation until this situation is resolved. After all, it is not unreasonable to expect conjecture from many."
"I suppose you're right." Del replied. "I guess I better start the memo on that. Captain Ross will probably want a report on that anyways, whether we're going or not. How's your workload?"
"It is adequate." Suvir replied. "I am currently filtering through encrypted Organization signals. Thus far, they do not appear to be anything of interest or of strategic concern to Starfleet interests. I will inform you if you need to do an additional memo."
"Appreciated." Del replied. "They've been awful quiet lately."
"Many in Starfleet and the Federation are starting to see them for what they are. Illogical, driven by fear and negativity. While I will admit that some humans have far too easily been duped by that in the past, it is refreshing to see them in a state of retreat. Assuming that they indeed are." Suvir said.
"What do you think makes them do it? Fall for blatant falsehoods." Del asked.
"The primary cause of the Organization is to portray the Federation as weak and simple-minded. They believe that in order to fight a potentially resurgent Cardassian Union, that the Federation - more specifically Earth - must take a more aggressive role and tone similar in nature to the Romulans or for that matter the Cardassians." Suvir said. "However, abandoning one's principles to the point you resemble your foe has been proven in many cultures including humanity to be unwise. How can we make the case to fight Cardassia if we refuse to differentiate ourselves from their view of what the galaxy should look like."
"If all sides look the same, it always backfires." Del said.
"Correct." Suvir replied. "The Organization may be able to make the Federation afraid. But it will not be as strong as they would hope. All they have is an appeal to basic, simplistic tribal instincts. It will work for a time. And then the facade will be laid bare for even its most devout followers to see. They offer simplicity in situations that demand recognition of complexity." he added before looking at his console.
"Everything all right?" Lamira asked.
"I am afraid not." Suvir said. "We have intercepted communications between the Dalacari and the Ts'usugi. Our own situation might be more complex than we feared."
"How so?"
"An encryption team translated these communications which seem to imply a Ts'usugi battle group is on full readiness to attack near our position. Worse, it has the blessing of the Dalcari government. It may be an attempt to rattle us. But it should be memoed and reported."
"I'll get right on that." Del said. "guess it's back to work."
"So it would appear." Suvir said.
