Location: J'Loni"s Quarters
Timeline: Right After. A Call Home
ON:
J'Loni walked quickly down the corridor to their quarters and entered it swiftly. Engaging the lock she set about sweeping it for devices and securing the wolves away as she wasn't sure of the Bajoran's reaction to them being loose. Jenna was not home from school and she made a hasty call for someone to collect her and remain with her until she could get her. Now all she had to do was wait for Alennis to arrive so she could fill her in. What she needed was to know when Commander Bartlett arrived so she could inform her of what had been found and her misgivings about Bowman.
Meru walked towards the quarters, curious as to what this could be about. It was such a strange world they were now living in that it could be anything. Within the scope of mere hours, she was one of the higher ranking officers aboard. And one of the most senior. The loss of life played in her mind over and over again. If someone on board was behind this, she might not let them off the ship alive. She rang the door chime.
Hearing the chime,"Computer release doors and secure when closed", she said. As the doors slid open, Meru stepped in, the doors shut quickly. "Doors sealed and secured", came the computers response.
"Boss sorry for the cloak and dagger but it was necessary", she said, handing Meru a PAdD that contained the lockout command code for her and the other systems in engineering. "Please sit, there is a lot to cover and time is of the essence", she daid, as she began pulling up the conversation she had with her grandfather. " I am letting you hear this as I trust you", she said and began the playback...
On the screen appeared her grandfather, Kar'Belek, looking bit surprised by all this. An older man about 95 or so but not looking his age, "My daughter, to what do I owe the honor?", he said.
"Grandfather, I suspect so much has happened since we spoke last," she said. She had some idea but not all the facts so she let him tell her first and she would fill in the blanks as they spoke.
"Yes my child, a lot has happened but, first I must tell you this...", he said, hesitating before he continued. "Another attempt has been made against our House", he said sadly. "This time by the House K'Targh!", he said angrily. "They are loyal supporters to the House Mo'Guev, who are loyal to the houses of Kil'Breckt and Gi'Lech. All three are loyal to the Cause Movement here on the home world, a cause that has pledged to over throw Chancellor Mar'tok and destroy your peace initiative dealing with the return of this pa'tagh of a Klingon captain who has been captured", he said.
Now things were becoming clearer in her mind. So there is an alliance of Houses on the home world bent on destroying the Klingon Federation Alliance. With the move against her house yet again, the news that these three houses being in league with each other gave her reason to suspect further involvement by an out side alliance. "Grandfather, do you know who is this outside party giving aid to them? We have reason to believe that the Cardassians are some how involved in this", she said.
"The Chancellor has his suspicions that it could be indeed the Cardsssians. They would be in a position to gain territory in the Delta Quadrant and by giving the Klingons access to new worlds is very interesting and worth inviting to say the least. Why?", he asked.
"Can you possibly find out who? It might mean the difference between an all out war again with the Klingons and Cardassians and the Federation, not to mention the Dalacari and possibly other Delta Quadrant species. We believe we have a saboteur on board and is targeting several of our systems. They have already taken the lives of half our command crew and in all probiblitaly, the diplomatic people will be summarily be eliminated making it bad for the Federation", she said almost pleading for help. "Has the challenge on our House been met?", she added.
Kar'Belek answered very solemnly, "Yes it has and not without blood shed. But, it was successfully prevented by aid from our three allied Houses, L'Kugh, Mordin, and Kilrah", he said. "J'Loni, you must be very careful, your life and that of your family there are in danger there. They know where you are! Please my daughter watch your life and that of your family and friends as they are all targets. I must go, the Chancellor has called an emergency session. Quap' la", he said, and the screen went black.
"So now you have the scope of what was found out back home. My grandmother does sit on the Counsel and she knows what is going on as she tells my grandfather. He would not lie to me under any circumstances and I would ever doubt him either. I hope this explains why I did what I did and the fact that I don't trust Bowman at all. She is hiding something and I can't place my finger on it but her emotions and actions lead me to believe that she is untrustworthy. Please sir I don't want her to get the codes to engineering or the sensitive areas of the ship as they are in jeopardy. If you do, I can't begin to fathom the damage that could be done to the ship and crew"' she said, with a very serious face.
Alennis considered the statements made carefully. Clearly there was something quite wrong aboard the ship and how this all played out. It was all too tragic and too massive to be a simple mechanical failure. She looked blankly towards the screen for a moment then back at J'Loni. "I think I liked your theory better when it was just a conspiracy and not a strong possibility." she said. "It adds up. The house in question would strongly benefit from the Federation siding with the Dalacari on this. And they know we're bound to. And yes... the Cardassians would gain an upper hand here which is what Protector Lihret would want. He's still eyeing Bajor for the Prophets' sake."
She paused again. "As for the codes and accesses..... I can try to do that, but only for so long. We would have to make a case to the First Officer for it... Or to Commodore Myers. Although those two seem awfully friendly toward each other. They might do it. That or we get brigged for attempted mutiny. It might be a small sacrifice."
Not liking the idea of being caged again, the idea of mutiny sounded better but that would go against all her loyalties. "I think given the severity and for the safety of this ship, crew, and the completion of this mission, I would go to Bartlett and then to the Commodore, skipping Bowman, if she is not who she pretends to be. Lt. Mor'Tok is of one of my alligned houses and I will put him on notice to watch my daughter. I know he will with his life. I am also going to speak to him regarding the use of armed escorts for all of the Musketeers as well as you. We must be careful because at this point I believe we are all in danger for our lives. The individuals involved in this attempt will stop at nothing to make sure this mission fails. If lives must be lost, you can rest assured it will happen mark my words", she said, her voice totally serious.
"Perhaps we should both pay a visit to our new First Officer." Meru replied. "You know as well as I do that the Cardassians, even defeated, are a ruthless people. They will stop at nothing to get what they want. Anything to bring the Cardassian Union back to the stage."
"Agreed, I think it should be done in this fashion. We go to the First Officer first and fro there to the Commodore unter complete secrecy. I don't want Bowman or any of tthe people involved knowing of what we are doing", she said, looking seriously. "I will show both Bartlett and the Commodore the transmission from my grandfather and let them go from there but if Bowman does get the codes, there are an encrypted second set that will bounce in place immediately. It is my way of saving lives and my ship", she added. "I think we are done for now commander", she said, as she reached down and scratched Lone Wolf's head. "If need be, both my wolves would be in engineering patroling as well", she added. She was sure Alennis would not object since it was a good idea to use them in this instance. Their hearing and sense of smell was uniquely needed here.
"Agreed. Right now, we could use all the assistance we could get." Meru said. "Let's head down. She should just be taking a break from watch."
