Lo'Mah was in Blanchard's - Now his - office reviewing files and checking orders. So far the patrols seemed to be effective, though of course for what they needed to do, everything was just fine. The crew so far seemed to be unwitting pawns in this game. At least from his viewpoint anyway. Bowman seemed a little bent on a bloodbath but he also figured beneath that quiet exterior, she was probably waiting to explode with contempt for a Federation that lost its way for years.
And then he saw what he'd been looking for. The confession Vargas promised. A Dalacari appearing to admit that Lieutenant Mordin was the one responsible for the explosion. Once she was in custody, the Klingon vessels would cloak and the confrontation would begin. Vargas assured him that some Organization vessels would be the ones en route to board the Wellington and maroon its crew. But even he didn't know who he was actually working for. if he had, he might have pursued this project with far less vigor. But what a coup for the Organization. 9 senior officers killed. Truly one of their most successful attacks since crippling a couple Intrepids on the northern tip of No Man's Land 4 years ago. Intel and Strategic Operations might be confused but by the time they realized what was really happening, it would be too late. Even Lieutenant Barnaby would likely be captured or dead before he could object.
"Lieutenant Valentine. Report to Colonel Blanchard's Office immediately." he said, tapping his commbadge.
Nyx looked up from the report she had in her hands. That was the worst thing about Starfleet, the paperwork. On Tial, there were designated non-priestesses who did it. So it was a reliefwhen she was able to put it down and arranged her gunbelt to make sure it and the paired swords were in their proper places before she took the three dozen or so steps to what was now Lo'Mah's office, "My Lord, you summoned, I am come." She gave a fractional bow.
"We have a problem on board this ship." Lo'Mah said. "And according to this report, we have a confirmed traitor and conspirator in the death of the Captain. Security's heel-dragging has required us to take action." he added. Of course, none of this was true but he knew that his men would follow orders.
"Of course My Lord. Our sentries and patrols have yet to report any additional suspicious activities, but one of them has also heard some engineers talking about blatant acts of sabotage having been performed. I would believe the events may be related." Nyx reported.
"Is that so?" Lo'Mah asked. "Do you know much else about this?"
"No, My Lord, these are just pieces being put together at this time. I don't even know who would be responsible for the damages." She looked a little uncomfortable as she continued, "My knowledge of mechanics is rather limited, My Lord, which is why I chose this arm of Starfleet when I was sent to the Academy from Tial."
"I see." Lo'Mah said. "The engineers waste their time. And ours. Rather than being detectives they should be fixing the ship.. We have found our perpetrator."
"My Lord?" That made no sense to the Tialan, "From what I gathered, the engineers ARE fixing the ship. It's that there are a large number of problems to fix and that they are constantly finding more."
"I would certainly hope they are." Lo'Mah said. "We need to serve an arrest to a member of the crew in the Sciences department."
"Science department, My Lord?" Nyx looked confused, "I presume we have evidence or at least a reasonable suspicion that one of them is involved?"
"We do." Lo'Mah said. "Commander Bowman has instructed that we arrest her as she may be armed and in touch with the Ts'usugi. Otherwise, Security would handle it. There is a confession picked up by Starfleet Intelligence in which a Dalacari terrorist confirms that Valeria acted to blow up the Captain's Yacht."
Nyx's eyes opened slightly wider at that, "A Dalacari implicated Milady Mordin?" She thought back to that meal she'd had with the Ts'usugi and tried to identify anything that could be seen as a killer streak, or more specifically a covert killer streak, "It... Of course, My Lord, if the evidence is there taking her into custody is proper."
"It came from the Admiral herself." Lo'Mah said. "She will be punished severely for this crime. Thankfully, we have quickly found the culprit and can move on from this incident."
"Yes, My Lord. I can retrieve her, if you command it. She may come without resistance because of a conversation she and I had a few days ago. I believe she had a rapport with me, My Lord." Nyx volunteered.
"If she doesn't, given the nature of her crimes you should be prepared to eliminate her." Lo'Mah said. "I trust you know exactly what I mean by that."
Nyx inclined her head, "Of course, My Lord. I will be prepared for anything." Kill Valeria? Nothing that she could think of would make her think the Ts'usugi would go as far as suicide.
"That is what I like to hear." Lo'Mah replied. "Also, make sure you keep me posted on those Engineers."
"As ordered, My Lord." Nyx replied, "When are we going to make the arrest?"
"Early tomorrow morning at the latest. I want her to at least have one last taste of freedom before rotting in a Federation jail." Lo'Mah said. "And they say we're not without mercy."
