From Judgement: Part Five:

The two finally faced each other, Nyx drawing her longer sword and spinning it once around the wrist before stopping eight paces from the other Tialan. The third Priest stepped between them and addressed them both, “This Judgement, once begun, will only end in death. Let no one interfere, lest penalty be incurred.” He glanced at J'Loni and the fatigue-dressed woman who stood right by the shuttle.

Both priestesses adopted their own ready stances, Tilas with her shorter sword flush against her left arm, pointed downwards, longer sword straight up by her face. Feet over shoulder width apart and in a half crouch. Away from her, Nyx had her weight on her back foot in a deep crouch, front foot out ahead, strung up like a spring. Both hands were on the hilt of her sword, drawn back and held horizontal, tip pointed at Tilas's left eye.

Drawing his own sword, he reached inwards to the point between the two priestesses, then took two steps backwards, “Begin.” He raised his sword and backed away, resheathing it as he made his way back to J'Loni's side.

NEW:

Hir'e'Meta kept one hand resting casually on his sword, longer than any of the ones the others had, pommel large enough for both of his hands. It wasn't threatening, just making it available in case. "I'm afraid this will not be quick, Lady Commander." He remarked, some sadness in his voice, "I knew Nyx'e'Trixe over a decade ago, back when she was a First Class when Tria'e'neth ti'Dorand, now Light of the Northern Reach, took her into her direct service and took her to train personally."

Hir'e'Meta, I believe that My Lady Nyx will be victorious in this fight. I believe her will to survive will give her the strength to be the better of the two fighters", she said.

"That is all well and good to believe, Lady Commander, but the will to live does not confer invincibility. I have seen vibrant priests in the prime of their lives, with everything to live for and the desire for life, but the sword that cut them down quite frankly didn't give a shit." He shook his head, "That move, the under-thrust, that is classic Tria'e'Neth. If she had been against my own style, it might have ended the fight. Nyx'e'Trixe has skill, I knew that before, but she needed another few years of seasoning first."

He thought for a half second, "And, Lady Commander, it is not proper for you to call Nyx'e'Trixe 'My Lady', she is not your equal in rank either as a Priestess nor in your Starfleet."

"I meant no disrespect Sir but she may not in your eyes or in your culture's be my equal, but as my friend she is", she said as she watched the fight.

He waved his left hand in a gesture of dismissal and semi-acceptance, then raised an eyebrow a few seconds later as the two priestess came up in unarmed combat stances, "I have not seen that sort of disengage before... I will have to remember it." He said grudgingly, still seeing the advantage to Tilas, "I would have let her remain." He said simply, "It would have been the fastest, easiest way. You see, meaning no disrespect to Nyx'e'Trixe, but Tial is better without her."

J'Loni didn't answer him. She was to intent on watching the fighting progress. Watching them battle was like watching a pair of two warriors dueling to the death, which, of course this was. However, the fierceness of seeing two women dueling took her mind back to when she was in a similar situation on Quono'S. This fight took place when she took the rite of vengeance on the leader of the House that attacked her House. It too, was a fight to the death, but, nothing compared to this. This was a little different, yet she understood Nyx's need to do this. She only hoped and prayed that she would win and she would not have to actually do what needed to be done, take her life!

As soon as he saw the 'stumble' and the sudden shock on Nyx's face, even Hir'e'Meta grimaced momentarily. Almost as predicted. He saw then go to their knees and gestured to J'Loni, "It is time." He said quietly, starting to walk over.

J'Joni also started to walk over as soon as he started. She saw a glint in Nyx's eye which gave her a second thought. Nyx was determined to win no matter what. The only reason she moved was the sudden movement of Hir'e'Meta's move.

After nearly a dozen steps, he saw the glance Nyx had tossed over to them, then saw something change. He stopped dead, flinging his arm out to stop the warrior at his side, "Wait."

Over the silence, words came quietly from the mouth of the dark-haired priestess and pulses of light emitted them stayed and his eyes opened wide as in a flash, it truly was over. His hand dropped from it's blocking position as he again gave J'Loni a clear path.

J'Loni covered the distance in three strides hitting the ground skidding to a stop in front of Nyx, grabbing the skaking, bleeding girl, breathing heavily, and looked into her eyes. She was in pain but did not utter a word as she helped her to her feet.
