Mission:
https://wellington.pegasusfleet.site/index.php/sim/missions/id/4
Location: Sickbay
Hailey straightened her uniform before finally triggering the door sensor into sickbay. She was feeling a bit smug now that she'd had several hours to digest the promotion and the promotion and allow herself to be thought of as Major Hailey Weston, Second Officer of the USS Wellington, oh and Marine CO, Raider team lead, surgeon, etcetera. With all of the hats she now wore and all of the extra duties, she'd have to really plan and even outright scheme to find spare time to spend with Siobahn. Speaking of that, she set her focus back to what she was doing here.
Her uniform really was pristine, she always tried to make sure of that since, after all, appearances do matter, but the oak leaves on her shoulder felt better but weightier than the bars. A small smile crept onto her face as she stepped over the threshold into the room and glanced around for a familiar redhead. Target sighted, locked on, moving in. Siobahn was occupied with a little blonde girl and was facing away from Hailey. A finger on her lips towards the girl garnered a smile as she snuck up behind the doctor and just waited.
Having finished refusing the bone together, and now finishing off with the dermal regenerator, Siobahn looked down at the little blonde girl, trying to keep a stern expression. "There you go," she said with a gentle smile, ruffling the little girls hair. "Now, next time your brother dares you to do somethin' silly like jump from the top of a closet, what are you goin' to tell him?"
"That I'm smarter than him which is why..." her reply was broken with giggles. "Which is why I'm walking away," she finally finished.
"Good girl," Siobahn replied gently, lifting her down from the bio bed. "Now, tell your Momma that I will need to see you again in about five days, just so I can check it over, but you should be back to terrorisin' your brother in no time flat!
The little girl broke into another array of giggles and Siobahn shook her head, spinning around, almost colliding directly with Hailey. She gasped in surprise before breaking into a grin. "Hey you," she said, her eyes sparkling with genuine delight. "I'm just about finished up here, was there somethin' specific you needed me for?"
'Mission complete.' Hailey thought to herself at the successful stalk, then shook her head, "Not that I was really thinking of anything specific, just wanted to come by to see what you were up to after you got off?" She grinned, "Because I'm all set for the day myself."
"Did you want to do somethin'?" Siobahn asked, as she packed away the equipment she had been using and set the bio bed into self cleaning mode. "I'll be done here in just a few minutes if you had somethin'..." Siobahn's gaze had been travelling over Hailey's body as she spoke, but her eyes settled on the other woman's shoulders. "Oh my God!" she suddenly exclaimed, dropping the hypospray in her hand and stepping in closer, her finger tips trailing over the oak leaves now nestled where bars had previously adorned. While she had no idea what rank it actually pertained to, she could only assume that given that Hailey was here and happy that it was a promotion. "You got a promotion?" Siobahn asked, unable to hide the happiness in her voice. "That is amazin', I'm so happy for you darlin'!"
The smile on Hailey's face widened, "I'm now Major Hailey Weston, UFMC and the new Second Officer of the USS Wellington." She announced to Siobahn, wrapping her arms around the shorter woman and squeezing her in a hug, "This is an absolute shock for me, shouldn't have gotten these for a couple more years, but when the Captain gives them to you, how I could I refuse?"
Returning the hug, Siobahn resisted the urge to squeal. "You deserve it, and more! she finally exclaimed. "We have to celebrate! We have to do something special to commemorate the occasion!" She pulled back and looked up at Hailey, still grinning, touching her fingertips lightly to Hailey's cheek. "I am so happy for you, I really am!"
"Thanks." Something in Siobahn had touched something inside Hailey and she wondered what it was. Before she'd met the Irishwoman, she had been somewhat detached, oh yes, she could sit back, relax and even have some fun, but it wasn't the same. There was no spark to it beyond unwinding to prepare for the next mission or task. Instead, she let the fingers trace across her cheek, "But what can we do? I doubt you'd want to go for a run to celebrate." She winked at Siobahn, making sure she knew she was kidding, "Any ideas?"
"Oooooh...." Siobahn breathed. "As tempting as that is, I can think of much better ways to burn up energy and celebrate!" she replied with an easy grin. "How about the holodeck?" she suggested. "I'm sure we can find a suitable program!"
"Before we go there, did we want to change into something a bit more comfortable?" Hailey suggested, "I'm used to wearing a uniform ninety percent of the time, but it does get tiring..." She trailed off, "And I don't have that much civvie wear..." She finally realized.
Siobahn bit down hard on her bottom lip, oh, how she wanted to speak her mind, but technically she was still on duty, and even more technically, Hailey was now her boss... but... still... "You're welcome to raid my closet, God knows, I have plenty!" She laughed at herself. "And I'd love a quick shower anyway, wash the feeling of sickbay off."
"Closet raiding it shall be." Hailey declared, "And by royal fiat of myself," She laughed through the 'speech', "I declare you off duty." Yup, something was different with her now, "So let's go."
"With pleasure," Siobahn replied easily. As they walked out of sickbay, Siobahn looked up at Hailey and grinned. "So, I should probably warn you..." she said, her voice light with laughter. "I haven't entirely finished unpackin' yet," she said easily. "There's a few things, you know, here and there."
"I think I can handle it." Hailey laughed, "I've had to move a bit myself, it can't be that bad."
The walk to her quarters only took a matter of moments, and then they were there, in front of her door. Siobahn reached out and keyed in her access code quickly, almost holding her breath as the doors parted to allow them entry.
Even just standing there, Hailey's eyes took in the... Art form that it had to be, some sort of chaotic, throw paint at a wall type of art. Three dimensional. Packing crates, full and empty, the replicator not a replicator, but a bookshelf. One of her eyebrows twitched a single time, "I didn't know you set up an obstacle course just for me?" She asked Siobahn.
With a laugh Siobahn shook her head. "I had planned to unpack... but, well, I just haven't gotten that far... See, I met this gorgeous brunette, and to be honest, she's been quite the distraction." Siobahn winked as she motioned toward her bedroom. "My closet is in here," she said, kicking off her work boots and letting them fall where they lay before unzipping her jacket and tossing it, poorly, in the general direction of the couch. "Clothes are there, shoes are there, and under the bed, and there's some other stuff in the drawers over there," she said, pointing to each place. "I'm gonna grab a quick shower but feel free to help yourself to anything you want."
Hailey too removed her uniform jacket, but held onto it for the moment as she stepped from Picasso to something entirely different. The bedroom was pristine, the bed made to exacting standards and the floor was clear. She slid open the closet to find everything inside perfectly placed. She took a quick glance towards the door and saw that yes, the other room was indeed a mess, but that it stopped just before the door. Her hands automatically folded her jacket and placed it on the corner of the table as she began to rummage through the closet.
After a thoroughly enjoyable shower, Siobahn wrapped herself in a towel and walked out of her bathroom, pausing in the doorway and just watching as Hailey was digging through her closet. Clothing was something she did own plenty of, she just could never settle on any particular style but at the same time she could never part with anything either. "See anything you like?" she asked with an innocent smile as she leaned against the door frame.
Hailey looked up, complete indecision on her face until she looked over, then it changed, "Well, I see one thing I like." She straightened up and shrugged, "I've never been good at finding non-uniform and non-sweats stuff to wear, never know what actually looks good on me."
Siobahn grinned and walked over to her closet, peering in momentarily. "Do you like dresses?" she asked lightly, "Or do you prefer jeans?"
"Yes?" Hailey asked, further confusing the issues, "I have no real idea! Maybe you could help me?" A brave and hopeful smile.
Reaching into the closet, Siobahn grabbed out a simple dress and pulled it over her head, pulling the towel away and dropping it on her bed. "Ok," she said, venturing back into the closet and shuffling through clothing. "You are pretty much used to wearing your uniform or sweats, so lets start with jeans?" she suggested, grabbing a pair that she knew were incredibly comfortable, indeed they were one of her favourite pairs. She handed them out to Hailey before going back in for a second time. "I know just the top," she said with a grin. "I love it, it's one of my favourites, but I'll share," she finally added with a wink in Hailey's direction before pulling out a long tunic style top that sat just below the hips. The fabric was light and flowy and would just feel nice and comfortable. She handed it to Hailey and then paused, just looking at her. "Have confidence," she said softly with a smile, reaching up to brush the softest kiss across the corner of Hailey's mouth. "You're amazing..."
Have confidence. Hailey had never been afraid of anything, well, that wasn't true, but she'd never let fear stop her like it was threatening to do now. Until the last words. She smiled slightly, then after gently placing the clothes on the bed, she started taking off her uniform, starting with her boots then pants, revealing black panties. She smiled and tugged the jeans on before reaching down and pulling off her tunic, revealing the fact that she didn't wear a bra. Of course, she had absolutely no problem with modesty, it was just all normal for her around marines. She then pulled on the borrowed tunic and tried to straighten it out as best she could, "Whatcha think?"
"Delicious," Siobahn replied with a wicked grin. Finishing dressing herself quickly, she pulled a brush through her hair and grabbed a pair of flip flops from the bottom of the closet before looking back at Hailey again. "Grab some shoes and we'll go... That is, unless you've changed your mind and want to stay in..." She winked and grinned.
Hailey looked at her boots and nodded, those would be out of place with jeans, "I get this feeling we'll be back." She opined, looking in and seeing more shoes than she'd seen in her life. She, herself, had two pairs of boots, sneakers, and a short set of heels for very fornal events. She elected for a pair of sandals and slipped them on, "You just have to pick out the program, or else risk what I choose."
"Oh, I seriously doubt you could ever choose wrong," Siobahn replied with a smile as she headed toward the door. "But I'll tell you what, how about this time you let me choose something? Do you trust me?" She looked toward Hailey, smiling as sweetly as she could manage while trying to keep a somewhat straight face.
As het back was turned, Hailey reached to het uniform and plucked something from it, setting it at the small of her back, then saw the look as Siobahn turned back around. f that smile means what it would mean if it were me...' Hailey thought to herself, already preparing for the mischief certain to occur, tracing fingers up Siobahn's left arm,"Of course I trust you, why wouldn't I?"
A shiver of delight ran through her at the touch. Let's go," Siobahn replied with an easy smile.
=/\= Holodeck Two -/\=
Outside the holodeck, Siobahn turned to face Hailey and grinned, slipping her hand into Hailey's she squeezed gently before keying in the command to enter.
Stepping through the doors, Siobahn turned toward Hailey and smiled. They were inside an old fashioned English pub. A dart board sat on one wall, a pool table in the centre of the room, a bar on the far side. There were a few tables and chairs scattered around, and a row of bar stools at the bar. A few holographic patrons were occupying a couple of the seats and music was playing over the speakers in the corners.
"I hope you aren't disappointed?" Siobahn asked hopefully.
Hailey chuckled, this was definitely not what she expected, but then she hadn't known WHAT to expect anyways, "Of course I'm not disappointed, how could I be?' She reached an arm around Siobahn and squeezed her close, "But this just means I have to beat you in darts, doesn't it?"
Siobahn laughed and slipped an arm around Hailey's waist. "I assure you, that won't be hard, I really can't play. Pool was always much more my thing!" She paused for a moment, just revelling in feeling of Hailey's close proximity. "What do you want to drink?" she finally asked. "I'll grab us some drinks from the bar."
"Guiness?" Hailey requested, "I like that the best, to be honest." She grinned, "I'll go rack us up on a table."
Walking up to the bar, Siobahn ordered a pint of Guinness and a glass of sparkling water with a wedge of lemon. Carrying them back to the pool table she handed the Guinness to Hailey and smiled, holding her own glass up. “To Major Hailey Weston, the ships new 2XO,” she said proudly.
The bar patrons all raised their own glasses and two of them pounded on the bartop and cheered. Hailey raised her own, "Long live the Wellington!" She added.
Siobahn smiled at the sudden cheer from behind them and took a sip of her drink, watching Hailey carefully over the edge of her glass. "So," she finally said quietly. "Now you're basically my boss huh?"
"Yeah, basically I am." Hailey agreed, taking another drink of her beer, "And I'm also the Marine CO, and the primary trauma surgeon, and while currently it's the same thing, also the Raider team leader. I came here to be a doc, and look at me." She laughed.
"I am looking at you," Siobahn said with a teasing smile. "Now put that drink down, get over here and play with me..." her smile became a grin as she reached behind her, grabbing a pool cue from the table and holding it out in front of her. "You can break, boss." She finished with a wink.
Hailey took the cue and inspected it, then made a few motions that made it look like she knew she was doing. She did, she just wasn't good at it. The white ball slammed into the rest, sending balls all over the table, but none of them went in. "I'm only the boss when we're on duty, not when we're here having fun!" She complained.
Taking the cue from Hailey, Siobahn let her fingers brush over Hailey's hand. "I was just teasing you," she said quietly. Grabbing the small piece of chalk sitting on the side of the table, she chalked the tip of the cue and then brushed some chalk across the back of her hand above her thumb before assessing the layout of the table. Just as she was about to take her shot, the door to the pub slammed open and a deep voice shouted something almost unintelligible.
Straightening up, Siobahn turned around to look at the three rather large figures that now stood in the semi darkness of the entry way. One of them took a few steps toward Siobahn and Hailey, making Siobahn instinctively take a step back.
"That's our table," he growled in their direction.
Hailey automatically stepped to interpose herself between Siobahn and the newcomers, angling her body so that her right side was slightly closer to them, "I believe you're mistaken." She said, the smile on her face taking a slightly stiffer appearance, her eyes losing some of their luster, where Siobahn couldn't see them, "We were here first."
“This is our table, it’s always our table,” he growled again, stepping closer, the other two stepping in either side behind him.
“Computer, delete holodeck characters,” Siobahn ordered softly.
“Unable to comply,” came the monotone response. “Computer program is unable to be modified at this time.”
The biggest one, the one standing in the middle, laughed in a guttural way and took another step closer to Hailey.
Siobahn cringed. “Hailey, let’s just end the program and go,” she said softly, silently kicking herself for not paying closer attention to the details of the program.
Hailey's knees bent fractionally, not enough tk be noticed and she let him take another step towards her, then another. He rrached out to grab her by the arm and she moved like a pit viper. She reached inside his arm with her left and grabbed above his elbow, jerking down and turning the arm so that hers was on the outside. He grunted and went to his knees from the pressure, where his face met Hailey's knee. Meanwhile, her right hand flashed behindbher backnunder the tunic and reappeared with a silver weapon whose muzzle looked as if a teain could be driven through it, pointed at the other two. Hailey's face had gone from cheerful to death itself as her knee came up a second time into the first one's face.
Siobahn screamed as everything started happening so quickly. This was not at all how the evening was supposed to turn out. Within a moment Hailey had the first on the ground bleeding and a weapon pointed st the other two. She wasn’t even sure where the weapon had come from, it had just appeared.
“Computer end program now!” Siobahn shouted as one of the other two took another menacing step toward Hailey. The hologram flickered monentarily before disappearing, leaving the two of them standing in the middle of a black and yellow hologrid. “I’m sorry,” Siobahn muttered quietly. “That wasn’t supposed to happen...”
Her finger had almost reached the breaking point on the trigger when the hologram flickered and died, the one crumpling at her feet vanishing into nothingness. Hailey released the pressure on the trigger and removed her finger from it, resetting the safety and pointing the weapon downwards. She squeezed her eyes shut as the adrenaline began to flow away, then turned, her face showing life again, "Are you okay?" Her eyes opened, full of concern.
Siobahn nodded slightly. “Don’t ever let me choose another holodeck program ever again, okay?” She said quietly. “Apparently I am really bad at it. I’m sorry...”
Slowly, Hailey put the gun away under the hem of the tunic in the travel holster she had in the back of her jeans, "I just got surprised, that's all." A shiver ran down her spine as she ran through the scenario that had just happened, "You don't need to be sorry. You're safe with me." She cringed as she said it, finally realizing that she'd just beat the crap out of someone and pulled a gun in front of Siobahn with absolutely no warning.
“But it was never supposed to happen,” Siobahn complained. Finally she offered a miserable smile. “I guess maybe I should have read the entire description and not just looked at the pictures huh?” She sighed softly. “So much for a celebration...”
Hailey tipped Siobahn's face up and kissed her. "There are always learning curves, but you get to pick the one after the next one." She smiled.
Siobahn sighed and kissed Hailey back. “Thank you,” she finally said softly. “You thought I was in danger and you defended me...” She brushed her fingers over Hailey’s cheek softly. “You didn’t have to but you did.”
"I always will." Hailey said softly, but inside she wasn't sure whether she had been defending Siobahn, or if she had just been defending herself. End result was protecting Siobahn, but they had been coming for HER. He had reached for her, not Siobahn, just like... She forced another smile, "So that just means you have to be by me all the time, so I can be there to make sure no one hurts you, right?"
With a grin, Siobahn leaned in and kissed her again. “You’re the boss,” she said with a smile. “Tell you what, let’s go back to my quarters... I know another way we can celebrate.”
Hailey grabbed Siobahn's hand and squeezed it, "I think that sounds like a good plan. And to be honest, these jeans are a bit tight for me, really restricts my movement."
“Mmmmmm...”. She ran her hand lightly over Hailey’s bottom and grinned wickedly. “I think they look damn fine... but I will gladly help you out of them...”
