Location: Ships Lounge
Timeline: Sometime
Siobahn was sitting in the lounge, holding a sparkling water in her hands as she anxiously watched the door, waiting for either Hailey or Renee, who ever would appear first. She wasn't even sure why it was that she was nervous, just that it seemed vitally important to her that these two people actually get along. Renee had the capability to be a very very good friend, and, well, Hailey was at that point in time the most important person in Siobahn's life, she didn't know what she was going to do if for what ever reason they decided that they didn't like each other.
Hailey walked in and stopped dead, the sergeant behind her almost running into her. Sketching a couple things out on the palm of her hand with a finger, then returned the rapid salute as the sergeant threw one up, then trotted off. She exhaled deeply and visibly relaxed, turning to spot Siobahn at a table and reaching up to loosen her collar, then rubbed the back of her neck as she put a smile on and shook her head, "Well, that's another thing dealt with,"She slid into one of the chairs next to her girlfriend, "This running around with three jobs is going to really get old fast."
Reaching for Hailey's hand, Siobahn squeezed gently and smiled sympathetically. "You look so tense darlin'" she said softly. "When we're finished here I'll take care of that for you," she said softly. "Renee should be here soon, she seems to be really looking forward to meeting you..." her voice trailed off for a moment before she spoke again, her voice taking on a lighter, teasing tone. "Should I be concerned that other women are so keen to be with you?"
Hailey chuckled, "After what you did for her and what she did for you..." She sniggered, "Should I be concerned that she and you might get a thing going?" Turnabout with teasing was fair play, "I really do want to thank her, because I'm not around enough for you and I'm sorry, sweetie, I just.. Don't know how to say 'no' to responsibility when it's offered, and I don't want you to not have friends you can go to when I'm not around. Unless, of course, she's better looking than me?" More gentle teasing.
Siobahn smiled, reaching up and touching her fingers to Hailey's cheek. "There is no one else I have eyes for," she whispered softly. "You and only you." she leaned in, brushing a soft kiss across Hailey's lips before pulling back and smiling. "Besides, I don't think I have what she's looking for," she finished with a light laugh. Looking up, she saw Renee walking across the lounge toward them and waved to her new friend. "Here she is..."
As Renee approached the table, Siobahn motioned for her to join them. "Hailey, this is Renee, the engineer I was telling you about... Renee, this my Hailey," she said with a smile.
Renee almost switched the box she was carrying to her left hand before remembering it was in a sling and settled for putting it on the table, reaching out with a hand, "Hi Siobahn's Hailey."
Hailey took the hand and shook it, "Good to meet ya', Renee, I don't know how you did it, but you made Siobahn even prettier than she was and I thought it was impossible."
"She didn't need my help!" Renee chuckled, "You've got a good one, Hailey, Vonnie is one good looking gal. But I have something for you." She slid the decorative wooden box over to the marine. Quizzical look on her face, Hailey unlatched, then opened the box. Inside were three thirty-round magazines along with ten rounds cradled in a green velvet cushion. "Rounds for your rifle, I got a look at it from security footage, but these will interface with the lasing computer and activate the anti-matter atoms encased in a micro-forcefield in the center of the round. Fifteen atoms of antimatter."
Hailey picked up one of the individual rounds, eyes open an an eyebrow raised, "Really... That could be interesting. Safe for practice on the range?"
"Twenty meters or more."Renee nodded.
Hailey replaced the round gently, "Thank you, Renee, but I'm afraid I don't have anything for you."
"Bah, company is all I want." Renee grinned, "Good company, friendly company, company that I can dress up?" She looked to Siobahn.
Not understanding any part of the conversation about the ammunition, Siobahn just watched quietly as the two of them spoke until Renee looked at her again. “My God,” Siobahn exclaimed, reaching for Hailey’s hand again. “You thought my closet was full, darlin’, my entire quarters would fit in just ONE of her closets! I have never seen so many shoes in my life!” She laughed easily. “And she can be very, very persuasive! She wants me to go to Karaoke tomorrow night... I pretty much sound like a dying cat if I try and sing, but I'll go along and watch, at least until you're finished on the bridge." She smiled as she looked across at Hailey again.
With a laugh, Hailey made the gesture that would give Siobahn's company over to Renee, "Thank goodness i have duty on the bridge!" She didn't like to sing and her voice would have been booed at best, "And by the sounds of it, you two are going to be dressing up quite a bit, again, good thing I have duties, or you both might try to ambush me and..." She trailed off at the look on Renee's face.
That look was mischief and Renee looked over to Siobahn, "Of course we would NEVER do that to you, Hailey, would we, Siobahn?"
Siobahn grinned wickedly, unable to help herself. "Personally, I'd much rather dress you down... but... still, it could be fun going the other way..." Standing up, she looked from Hailey to Renee and back again. "I'm going to go get some drinks from the bar, what would you like Renee?" she asked.
"Coffee? With some chocolate and vanilla added, if possible?" Renee smiled brightly.
With a nod, Siobahn headed to the bar to get the drinks, silently offering up a prayer that Renee and Hailey would get along, though so far it seemed positive.
Hailey got somewhat tense as Siobahn left the table, "You aren't thinking of-"
"No, I'm not." Renee already knew the question, it was a jealousy-based question that she's expected, and she smiled softly, "I just need friends, Hailey, too many not-friends on board and I don't want to hang out with guys and she's a kid and gorgeous and she loves you, I can tell. Don't ask me how, but I can, and well, I'm just rambling on and on but you don't have to see me as a threat. Girls gotta stick together and I think if we can work a little on you?"
Hailey laughed loudly, "You two would have to tie me down!"
Returning just in time to hear Hailey's last words, Siobahn set a pint of Guiness on the table on front of Hailey, a coffee with chocolate and vanilla in front of Renee, and then slipped back into her own seat with what looked like nothing more than a glass of milk with ice cubes, though it did have a strawberry neatly set on the side of the glass. She slipped back into her own seat, her hand immediately returning to Hailey's again. "Everything okay?" she asked hesitantly, looking between the two of them.
"Yes." The two said in unison, then Hailey smiled at Siobahn, "Yeah, all's good. For the record, my dear, I don't get to choose your friends. I don't have to like them, but she's?" She tossed a thumb towards Renee, "She's fine, probably something of a kook." Renee seemed to beam with the designation.
Siobahn laughed openly at Renee's reaction to being deemed a kook and shook her head. "Well, kooky is something I can deal with," she finally said with a smile before looking back at Hailey. "Are you on the bridge again tonight darlin'?" she asked softly.
Hailey nodded sombrely, "But tomorrow I'm just on call off station, a junior Lieutenant is taking the watch officially, but I'm available in case they have questions or need advice."
With a slight nod, Siobahn made the decision that first opportunity she would arrange to reschedule her karaoke date with Renee, and in her heart she knew that the other woman would understand. A night off was not something to be taken lightly... maybe she could manage to put together something actually really special. She smiled at Hailey and nodded. "It's okay," she said softly. "How long until you have to leave?"
"About an hour and a half." Hailey responded, then smiled slightly, "Not long enough."
Siobahn nodded slightly and forced a smile onto her face. "You should eat before you go on duty again though," she said quietly before she forced another smile. "Well, it gives me some time to attempt to unpack, which you know just won't really happen, so likely I will end up with a text book and a big bowl of ice cream."
"I could help you?" Renee interjected, "I mean, you saw how I can fit stuff in, pretty well, and I can always adjust your quarters to give you more space for things, additional furniture, anything I can do to help! It's good to be an engineer, really it is."
With a laugh, Siobahn shook her head slightly. "Honestly, I don't think anyone can help... I think I just need to start jettisoning entire cargo crates out an airlock and be done with it!" She grinned. "Hailey called it an obstacle course."
"War zone." Hailey coughed, "Fought over a couple times." She cringed back from the slap that came her way.
"Nothing we couldn't clean up in a jiffy." Renee declared.
"Hey!" Siobahn declared with a pout aimed in Hailey's direction before turning her attention to Renee. "You're welcome to come look, but honestly, it is pretty bad..." Colour stained her cheeks slightly. "Quarters here are even smaller than quarters at the Academy," she finally said by way of a weak excuse.
"What else are friends for?" Renee smiled, "But, that's for later." She backed her chair up, "Let me give you two some time to each other, and I'll see what I can do about your quarters, all right?"
"Thank you Renee," Siobahn said with a genuine smile, turning her attention back to Hailey. "Soooo," she said quietly. "How much longer do I have you to myself for?"
