First impressions

Location: Captains ready room

Layara waited patiently outside the door to the captains ready-room for the occasion she had decided on a less flamboyant appearance Caitians she had decided would be suitable distinctive to allow herself to be easily identified but not flamboyant enough to draw overt attention to herself. a most rational decision. claw tips tapping rhythmically she waited to be summoned.

"Come." Michelle said as she was going over her messages, and reviewing any incident reports. She knew some new crew members had come aboard but given everything going on she hadn't quite had the chance to meet them.

“Ensign Hummul reporting as ordered ,” she said as she stepped into the ready room throwing a crisp salute.

Michelle returned the salute. "At ease." she said, observing the Caitian in front of her. "You're a long ways from home, it would appear." she said.

“That would be correct Captain though home is somewhat of a misleading term. Have you read my file yet Captain? It might help answer some of the questions you have.

"I have." Michelle replied. "A Kali'na. An avian type life form with the capacity to shape-shift. Your people applied for Federation membership shortly after the Dominion War if memory serves me correctly. Graduated at the top of your class from the Academy in the sciences. It's always nice to meet another scientist. I was one for a few years before moving into command." she added, choosing to leave the part out about how she didn't exactly 'move in' to this job so as not to scare the poor Ensign.

"Well captain we are not avian we are rather a colony organism. our ability to shape-shift and mimic organic life means we often adopt the traits that are most viable on a given planet our true appearance is... considerably different," explained Layara carefully.

"Shapeshifting?" Michelle asked. "I... I don't actually think I've encountered one face to face before. At least that wasn't trying to kill us." she added, referring to the Dominion.


“We are not like them we tend to value your life and knowledge we seek to create a better world for our people and our allies we see the value of other species stories .” Said Layara
She paused then added
“Whatever rumors have been told you can ignore them I am here to do my duty to the best of my ability captain,” said Layara firmly.

Michelle looked at her. "I haven't heard of any rumors, but I will certainly take you at your word for that. I would recommend checking in with Lieutenant Mordin, your new department head. She'll get you all set up."

"Yes captain," Said Lyara Saluting sharply as she left the captains ready room.

Michelle turned back to her paperwork... This was going to be a rather interesting addition.
