Location: Science Bay
Valeria had taken a copy of the sensor feeds down to the Science bay to see if the systems there could assist in making heads or tails out of the readings. For all intents and purposes a planetary system and its orbital defenses had simply been pulled out of phase with local time-space and locked in, for lack of a truer term, a pocket. The rabbitess put the readings into the computer, and started to crunch a series of number sequences, essentially trying that age old human tactic of throwing whatever one had at a wall to see what would stick. Though, these calculations would take a while, so the rabbitess simply relaxed against the console as the system crunched away.
Krystel had located the Lieutenant Mordin's office. She was really ready to get started into something new and interesting. She adjusted her skirted uniform for the millionith time and hit the buzzer to the Chief's office. Then she ran her fingers through her shoulder length red hair, and waited with her orders in hand.
Her lengthy ears twitched that the chime. A welcome distraction, for certain. Valeria made she she and her desk were presentable: a small crystalline rock on a stand, a picture of her family all together (10 in total!), and a magnetic model of an osmium atom all graced her desk. She didn't think it was good to present an empty desk, so she decorated sparsely.
"Come in." she bid, once she was certain she and her desk were ready for guests.
Krystel entered the room and came to a dead stop as she stared at the Rabbitess sitting at the desk. "Absolutely gorgeous." She said out load, before she could catch herself. Then she moved before the desk and placed her hands behind her back, as they twitch as she was looking at the long ears that needed some messaging. "Sorry, sir, that was unprofessional." She fired off quickly, then pulled her orders out and handed it to Mordin. "I'm Dr Krystel Villanova, your new Biologist." She was having a hard time keeping her eyes looking at the woman and not her ears.
"Valeria Mordin. It's a pleasure to make your company, please make yourself at ease." Valeria offered, taking a moment to look over the orders. If it was one thing the Federation and the Empire of Ts'usu had in common, it was paperwork. "And I take no offense. Beauty is to be appreciated in any form when encountered. From the perfection of a crystal to the charm of a pretty face, if we don't appreciate what we see, then what are we as scientists?" she mused aloud.
"Though, I must admit, it's the first time someone missed my eyes by looking *up*." and at that, she offered a smirk. "Tell me a little about yourself, something that I can't find by reading." she said as she put the transfer orders to the side of the desk. "I do find green to be a lovely compliment to the reds and blues that seemingly dominate Starfleet's color concepts."
Krystel grinned at the Rabbitess as her eyes slid north to her ears. "Sorry, I love messaging rabbit ears." She said quickly with a her cheeks turning a slightly darker green in color. She took a seat, but kept her hands clasped tightly in front of her. "A little about myself? A little about myself?" She thought for a moment. "Just to forewarn you that I have been told that I'm like a hyperactive hamster on coffee, that is because I have Hyperthymia. This has affect me in many different ways. I sleep very little, or I should say, I cat nap a couple of hours a day. So boredom is my biggest weakness. So if I'm not working on some new study, I'm doing acrobatics, gymnastics, reading, swimming, martial arts, singing, dancing, horseback riding, playing medieval holo programs, prowling the crew for a companion for the evening, or studying the newest things we discover on some alien world. Oh yea, also, don't worry about the male crewmembers drooling over themselves as I don't produce the mind controlling hormones that is standard for Orion woman. I have a birth defect in that area of my endocrine system." The whole time she was speed talking Krystel's eyes where on Mordin's ears. "And I would just love to message those ears of yours."
Valeria was impressed, and amused. "I've heard several times that my people resemble rabbits. Having met one, and studied the species, I can see the similarities." she offered a slight smirk in amusement. "And as long as none of your additional pursuits interfere with whatever task you have, I certainly can't say in honesty that I mind what you do on the side. Just as long as it doesn't bring shame to the department." she warned. In that moment, she realized she sounded like her mother, and that hit her like a brick.
At the talk of her 'birth defect', though, Mordin shook her head, "I doubt you'll be needing those to have the men here eating from your palm. I trust you to use your time as you wish." she offered with a nod, then sat back a bit. "Ts'usugi put a lot of value on touch. Even simple contact carries a weight to it. You'll understand if an offered massage is turned down at the moment, with gratitude."
"Something like that would need to be earned." she pointed out, with a smirk.
"Now you have really peaked my interest." Krystel said with a bright grin. "I'm, also, early to my shift and late leaving my shift. I have been known to cat nap at my desk on the Kitty Hawk and the Yankee Clipper." Said quickly. "I use to drive my instructor's crazy at Cambridge College, of course they where happy when I was accept to the Vulcan Science Academy at the age of 14. You know that is a great honor, as not many non-Vulcan's even apply or get accepted."
"A fellow patron of knowledge." she admitted with a smirk, "At a young age, I skipped school to attend school." she said, cryptic to the end, before she clarified, "I skipped initial classes to attend classes in a nearby higher grade school. The standard lessons they were teaching bored me, and I found the more advanced lessons far more captivating. I was, naturally, caught for truancy and punished. Though the local magistrate admired my desire to learn, and took a lesson from one of our myths. His punishment was that I had to learn." she remembered that day well.
"I was to attend one of the most prestigious, and difficult, academies in our region. I was to achieve no less than eight marks." a pause, "That's a high grade."
"If I passed, I'd have hopefully sated my appetite for knowledge and done so at an academy I might not have had the chance to place in normally. Fail, and I bring shame to my family." she motioned around her, "I passed. Later, upon admission into Starfleet, I learned of the Vulcans and their penchant for knowledge. Vast and powerful, though at the cost of so much. I find that if you lose your passion on the path to knowledge, you lose both."
"Though, Academia at fourteen is impressive. Be proud of your achievement. I think you'd find schooling on the moons of Ts'usu to be to your liking. Brutal, efficient, and direct. You pass, or you fail, but you do so by your own merits."
She chuckles. "I've officially attended college at the age of 12, but I was taking college courses sense I was 9 year old. As to being proud of my achievement, I am. I like science, biology to be specific. I worked hard to earn my PhD in Biology" Krystel said. "I want to learn, because I get mischievous when I get bored." She smiled at Mordin. "I failed the the entrance exam for Starfleet 3 times, but I was able to pass the Enlisted tests. I just had finished my Officer Candidate School, before coming aboard the Wellington.
"Of all that, what impresses me is that you didn't give up." Mordin mentioned. She gave the transfer orders one final look over, before approving them with a digital signature. "Welcome aboard, Krystel. I think you'll bring honor and prestige to the Science division, and will make an exceptional addition to the team."
"I look forward to being impressed."
"Well I look forward to," Krystel grinned and darkened in the cheeks a little, "working under you. If you need me for anything, just call me." She said getting up and heading out.
