Location: Ready room
Timeline: Post-battle
Jack arrived on the bridge, seeing that things had calmed down considerably. He stood at the back but cleared his throat to announce his presence.
Michelle stood up from the chair, noticing the CAG just outside the turbolift door. "All settled down for now?"
"Yes Ma'am. For now." Jack stood at attention, erring on the side of caution as long as he didn't have a good read of her yet. "I'm here for a debrief, Ma'am. I'm ready to give a preliminary oral report."
"Of course." Michelle responded. "As you were, Commander. We can do this in the ready room or you can pull up a chair. Whatever makes you more comfortable." she added, not wanting his first day to... well.. get any crazier.
He stood at ease. "My preference would be your ready room, Ma'am."
"Of course." Michelle replied before nodding to the Ops officer on duty.
Once in the ready room he took a seat and heaved a sigh. "Having sortied I divided my squadron up into two flights, Black Sheeps three, four and five along with Double-you-Oh Otassu's blink fighter under my command, Black Sheep six, seven and eight under Lieutenant Madison's command. The two flights took up flanking position on either side of the Wellington, holding a defensive position."
"When our scanners picked up four new small contacts I ordered Black Sheep to move in between the new contacts and the Wellington." Jack continued. "When we reached position I took Otassu and performed a flyby in between Black Sheep and the contacts, presenting a target, to see what they would do, ordering Otassu to blink behind them and engage to disable, if they opened fire. They did, with laser weapons."
"Thus having determined them hostile, I ordered Black Sheep squadron to engage to disable. Lieutenant Madison took her wing and engaged from one side, while I engaged from the other with my wing, with Otassu offering fire from behind the bogeys." Carver continued. "We disabled two and splashed two, despite attempts to disable. After that I ordered my wing to regroup, reported to the ship and received your return order."
"Well done." Michelle said. "It seems there is some confusion amongst the hostile vessel's commanders. They are... Unaware of how far in the future they are." she added. "Doesn't appear to be a temporal incursion of any sort... But rather they mistook us for allies of the Koldarans."
A nod. "Hopefully our fighters impressed them enough to not want to test out our starship." Jack offered. "Further orders, Ma'am?"
"For now? Run drills in case we need to re-engage them. I'd rather not have to do that but we aren't fully sure what we're dealing with. We may also have to do a planetary strike as a show of force if they don't release our away team." Michelle said. She hated the idea of having to do it and she was sure if the crew knew the 'worst case scenario' she just ordered Jack to prep for they'd be shocked... But she wasn't going to have any more losses.
"I will have heavy weapons prepared, put on standby and set up for atmospheric bombing, Ma'am." Jack agreed. "While expressing the sincere hope we won't need to use them. Keep in mind fitting them will take about ten minutes between receiving the order and ready for sortie."
"Noted." Michelle replied. "I'll bear that in mind. Honestly if their planet's as weak as their fleet seems to be, we may not even need to go all out. Which is why I'd rather not have to act in self defense."
"Of course, Ma'am." Jack agreed. "With your permission I'd like to return to the fighter deck now and make sure the Black Sheep are ready for sortie."
"Proceed." Michelle said. "If I have any other questions or requests, I'll be sure to let you know."
"Yes Ma'am." And with that Jack turned to head out.
