Location: Flight Deck
Timeline: Right After "The Debrief"
ON:
Heading back to the flight deck, Madison had wanted to check her Gryphon to make sure "No Mercy" was not hit ny anythimg from the debris that were out there. She wondered why those fighters, though inferior as they were, why they chose to fight anyway. They had to see that their ships were...not wanting to think it but weaker than what they saw with their own eyes? She shook her head and continued to check one side and as she rounded the other side, she saw the Commander headed her way towards his fighter.
"Hello Commander, come to check out the damage", she asked as she continued to inspect her Gryphon.
"Just the routine post-mission checks." Jack replied, giving a nod in greet. "Nice flying out there today. We lucked out that our opponent was behind the technological curve. Next time we might not be."
"I guess so sir...how did the debrief go with the Captain?", she inquired. "I hope she looked favorable on your report", she added as she finished the overall check of the Gryphons skin.
"She was the star of the show." Jack mused, starting his own visual inspection, a walk-around of his fighter, Bad News. "The debrief was mostly just me describing what happened, and the captain listening. Her opinion is that we 'did well'." he smirked. "She told me to be ready for drills and have the wing ready to sortie for a show of power, should it be needed."
"Drills and a possible sortie? How interesting...just standard drills or the ones where we time how fast we can change ordinance?", she inquired. It wpuld stand to reason that standard drills would be easy but to switch ordinance would be a bit tricky.
"Not sure what she wants me to drill. Just that she wants me ready for some. So lets just concentrate on being ready to sortie, until the situation settles." he mused, continuing his visual inspection. He knew he hadn't gotten hit, but space debris could've caused some damage. So far he was in the clear though.
"Ok, so how do you want to handle it?", she chuckled, as she finished and went on to inspect the undercarriage of her ship. Basically she would have them doing simple in and change ordinance and out but being timed in this instance, but it wasn't up to her yet to initiate the move.
"Know what? I'm gonna let you call this one." he chuckled, then furrowed his brows. He reached a hand out to brush over his hull near one of the maintenance hatches, brought his fingers back and sniffed them, then sampled them with his tongue and made a face. "Got a leak." he mused as he set about opening the maintenance hatch. "Yeap. Leaking fluid. Looks like an overpressure seal popped. Gonna have to call maintenance on that one. Not taking Bad News out until it gets fixed."
Her head came around sharply...not believing she had heard correctly, "Sir??" Standing there just looking at him in total shock, she could not move only stare at the Commander.
"I'm the CAG, you're my second. Part of my job description is to groom you for my job, see if you have what it takes. Well, here's your first chance to show me you do." Jack gave her a pointed look, followed by a defeated sigh. "Besides, Bad News is grounded until this leak is fixed. I don't know what this fluid is supposed to do, but I feel that it'll do a better job of it inside the ship rather than on the outer skin."
"Well sir as I said before I know a good mechanic if your interested, sir", she said. "But back to what you said, you had no idea that you had that much confidence in me. I am honored. I will make the preparations for the drills. I know the blink fighter will be in and out faster than our Gryphon's but I will get the numbers down to under ten minutes", she mused, but with a serious under tone in her voice.
"Well, write up your drill and run your proposal by me when you're done and I'll sign off on it." Jack mused, continuing his tour of his fighter, undercarriage was next.
"I don't know what to say sir, only that we'll be ready", she said as she finished the undercarriage and climbed into the cockpit to finish her checks before she headed for the fighter ready room to draw up her drills for the sortie.
"I've got the utmost faith in your abilities, Lieutenant." he called after her, as he set about finishing his own post flight check. That fluid leak would need to get looked at.
