BFtP: A Taste For Vengeance

The dash from the doors entering the Marine area to her quarters wasn’t even hidden by any sort of deception. Once Hailey had thrown on the minimum of real clothing and found her automatic missing, her pace had become frenzied, her mind racing. Two hours to effect a rescue, it wasn’t much time, but it should be enough. If she were able to obtain the element of surprise, it wouldn’t take her long, but this was a solo job that would kill her career, without a doubt. But her dash wasn’t missed by the pair sparring on the exercise mat and both the Trill and the Tialan stopped and looked at each other before following Hailey to her quarters.

They walked into the beginnings of a tornado forming of her quarters and the blind panic on Haileys face, “Hey, Hays, what’s wrong?” Ami asked slowly. This was probably the absolute worst she’d seen her friend at, worse than that other time... And it was bad.

Hailey didn’t even look up, finally finding in a dresser drawer what she was looking for, pulled the case out and opening it to reveal a pair of beautifully chased automatic. She immediately picked one up and racked the slide slowly and inspected it, then grabbed a magazine from inside the case, shoving it in and racking the slide back to load a round, “He has Siobahn, I’m going to get her back.” She began the same process with the other, then rummaged around for the holsters in a skeleton holster.

“He who? Where?” Ami asked, mentally preparing even as she saw Nyx's eyes flit slightly, obviously cataloging her own needs.

“Carlos.” Hailey said simply, Ami’s eyes opening wide, knowing the whole story, “He’s on New Earth and Siobahn took my auto and I think went down there to scare him off..”

That caused Ami to grimace and more of a fire to glow in Nyx's eyes, “Nyx, armed up.” The Tialan nodded and left the room at her own trot.

“No.” Hailey snapped at Ami, “I’m going after him myself.. I owe him, I-“

“Will get her killed and have the cops on you if you go in guns blazing.” Ami said as calmly as she could, “What does he want?”

“Guns, two crates, our best. In an hour and fifty-five minutes.” Holster and guns set, Hailey began throwing her few civilian clothes out of the dresser and groaned in frustration, “I need something, Ami, I can’t do this in uniform.”

“We’ll work on it, carefully. And then you and Nyx will get the guns ready while I go deal with this. You aren’t going down there on the attack, he knows you’ll either give him the guns or come rushing down, he won’t expect me. Anyways, the moment you open fire, sensors start screaming in the city and you can bet he can claim self defense because his guys will have all the permits needed to defend their property.”

“Which is why, Milady, My Lady, you two will be preparing for the meeting, in case I fail.” The doorway filled with Nyx, ballistic reinforced civilian style clothes with her swords, a dagger and undoubtedly several other weapons secreted about her person. “Milady, you require to be in up and close, My Lady, what Milady said is true, plus you are panicked, more likely to make an error. I, on the other hand...” Nyx grinned widely, “Do not require guns for either mid or close range and blades won’t cause an alarm. Besides, this could be fun. Would this man be looking for mercenaries?”

Hailey had stopped in her tracks, “I can’t let you take the rain, not for me.”

“My Lady, Lady Siobahn has been coming to me as well as Milady for additional training, requested of me to teach her to shoot and she is a rather fair shot. I like Lady Siobahn, My Lady, but remember, this is what I do. If I can get in the door, even have it opened, I’m in. Would he want to hire a mercenary who doesn’t need guns to kill?”

“He’d be suspicious... But he’d probably have someone else initially meet with a new recruit, it won’t be him right away.”

“Which will work.” Nyx smiled that predatory smile, “Where is she?”

Ami had moved to the console and already began the search, “Here’s where the comm signal came from, if he made a mistake... Getting signals from it, there is a fuzz, transporter inhibitor, very localized.”

Nyx looked at the map, “I’ll transport down to here, no one has seen a Tialan, most like, they would be interested to see what I could do.” Having made the decision for Hailey, “My Lady, fear not. Make the other preparations as normal, just in case. If he suspects a rescue, this will satisfy him as your best attempt, if he’s not suspecting, surprise will get me far.”

The fight had gone out of Hailey, though inside her, she still wanted to go down and put two rounds into Carlos’s forehead, she was still rational enough to recognize that these two were right, it would be stupid and the recognition it were her would be the immediate death of Siobahn. She looked over the Tialan, “They may have you disarm before you get in.”

“They may not, and they may try.” Nyx shook her head sharply, “It will make no difference, My Lady.”

Struck with a momentary weakness, Hailey took the two steps to Nyx and threw her arms around the younger woman, who went stock still in shock, “Thank you, just... Try to bring her home.”

“There is no ‘try’, My Lady,” Nyx choked out, then breathed a sigh of relief as Hailey released her, “There is only do.” She gave partial bows to each of the others, My Lady, Milady.” And left..

Ami looked at Hailey, warmth in her smile, “She’s right, Hales, she is the best choice. Let’s get everything else started, but I suspect we won’t need it.” She pauses for a moment, “You don’t suppose we should ask her to take him or some of his people alive, should we?”

Hailey shook her head, sudden exhaustion creeping over her, “Don’t distract her, Ami, just... get a couple others and get ready... If something happens to Siobahn, I want that place leveled.”

“Fair enough, fair enough.”
