Mission: https://wellington.pegasusfleet.site/index.php/sim/missions/id/4
Location: Sick Bay

“OK, so just so I have this all correct:” The starfleet nurse sat back on his stool and tried to reconcile what Lt Jg Da’Vvuff was telling him.
“In this form you’re five feet, four inches and you weigh 127lbs. In the other you’re…. 7 feet tall and weigh 800 pounds?”
He tried - and failed- to keep the incredulity out of his voice.
“I get you’re bigger…. But THAT much?”

Milak’’s voice wavered just a tad.
“Yu..yes. I know.. But it’s really only 6 feet 11 inches, and 811. I’ve been meaning to eat more veg….” She looked up and shrugged, not really sure what else to say. “However I AM within the normal parameters for a female of my stature.”

The Yahlen were a race newly-admitted to the Federation. Tria was one of the first of her people to have graduated SF Academy. Certainly the first Yahlen Lt. Cao had ever encountered.

Her age: 16. Sixteen? Oh that's got to be wrong. No one is allowed into SF before the age of 18. 17 if you're on a reserve or deferment...

"Hey, one second. It says here you're 16 years old. Tell me about that." Despite his better judgement, Cao found himself once again becoming slightly interested.

Hailey had just gotten into sickbay a moment before when the words came to her ears. Quietly, like she was used to, she walked to the door behind the new (teenage?) officer of who she could see the sign of more than just a single pip. Just to listen.

"Oh, yes. Well, from the Brood Bitch's Womb Release to my 8th Presentation Ceremony, I was under the tutelage of Scholars of Robes." Milak simply sat and waited, expecting that everyone knew exactly what she was talking about.
After a few moments when the blank, expecting look on the nurse's face didn't change the Intelligence Officer realized more data was needed.
"Um. Brood Bitch's Womb Release... when I was born?.... Every year on the day that we were born we were presented to our Sire and the most suitable was presented as Brood Bitches or Harem fillers for the most important, most successful, most eligible bachelors. As our society entered the stars, our pools of new Masters deepened. However many felt that these new Masters didn't hold the ancient Honor and Bravery that was needed to fully control the Beast Within. That was when it happened. The Great Divide."
A sadness settled over the young woman suddenly, as all her Homeworld lost was remembered.
"That is what drove us here, to you. The Federation. To... Us, I mean." She picked at her jacket. "I am now a part of this. One of the first of my sisters to be traded to ..with... the Federation for supplies."

And now Milak had a master that was a far cry from that of the Master of her Dreams of youth. She would rest her head on her silken pillow, secure in her knowledge that as Father's favorite she would SURELY be given as a PRIZE Bitch to some Noblemen, some King. Someone who MATTERED. Instead, hers was a life of SERVITUDE. To a MASTER who she didn't truly trust and a master she didn't understand. But if this is what Fath.. Sire... Wanted....

“I’m sorry. Please forgive my lack of tact. It’s just.. We have very little in our files about your people.” He shot her a disarmingly charming smile and Milak found herself beginning to relax a bit.
“It’s OK. Well…” she swallowed. She hated talking about herself. “As you know, our teachings from way back. Oh, back from the Time of Ancestors of Beyond.. That’s several thousand years. Pretty much as far back as anyone has been able to tell….”

“So Old time story. Got it.” Lt Cao was apparently going to have to help her tell her story if he wanted to hear it before his shift ended in 4 hours. He sighed inwardly, suddenly wishing he’d kept his mouth shut.

“Uh, yeah. Um.. So We’re told that we’re all born of Two Souls. And those two Souls are in a constant battle. To the Death!” D’Vvoof’s hands became makeshift puppets who were suddenly bent on beating the crap out of each other.
It was a full 10 seconds of full-on hand-on-hand whomping before Cao cleared his throat.
The foreigner was nothing if not passionate. And maybe, Cao was realizing, still a bit of a child herself.
He zoned out as the elf-like woman with a long ponytail made from even longer braids carried on a one-woman show reenacting every religion lesson she had been taught.

“The Spark of An’rah in us - that’s the light. All that’s good, the thinking form, etc. This part of me is in control most of the time. It’s when the Ember of Nor’sorus gains control…” She grew quieter and still.
“That’s when I become...it. That’s when I’m angry.” Her emerald green eyes met the soft brown eyes of the man seated across from her.
“You wouldn’t like me when I’m angry.”

"From the sounds of it, I do believe you are correct." Hailey Weston, her pristine green uniform, said quietly from behind Milak. She pushed herself from leaning on the doorframe back to full balance and stepped towards the side to be within easy visual sight of the Yahlen's vision along with Cao, better to put someone at ease, "You must be one of the new transfers?" She asked with a slight smile, giving the ah, yes, junior grade Lieutenant an easy answer if she was nervous.

As was her custom Milak drew her nose up in a short sniff then a nod. Hmm. This woman smelled interesting. "I am, Ma'am. Thank you for noticing." She bowed her head in distinct deference.
This bitch was obviously Milak's superior.
"How may I be of service, Major?" The Lt JG's eyes, as she had been taught, never left the floor.

One eyebrow moved a fraction of an inch on Hailey's face as she briefly contemplated what to say or do. She was getting used to Nyx's culture, which had significant differences, but this was not only an unknown culture to her, but an unknown species as well, though she recognized the predator in the new officer. Boldness, she figured, authority, "Actually, I was mostly just passing through when I heard you talking to Mister Cao, here, and please don't feel the need to look at the floor, they do keep it quite clean around here." She tried a bit of humor.

This woman just faulted Milak's modesty! She found her decorum ...funny? These Humans... such frail creatures. With a slight grimace, D'Vvoof slowly, painfully stood to her full height, then seemed to keep growing taller as she failed to contain her emotions.
Decorum, rudness, politeness... hot button topics for her. And damned if the Darkness wasn't gnawing at her, taking over, PLEADING with her to give this lesser creature a painful lesson in proper decorum, especially in the sight of First Daughter of the Brood of Da'Vvuf!!!

As the old slight pricked again, the emotions began to well up inside her... being slighted, being taken from her true path..... and she had to quickly shove them down.
It must have been because she was just speaking about her Home, sharing, and now she was just laughed at insulted.

Instinct clawed at Hailey's warning sense to draw the weapon on her right hip, the sudden growth, the hair starting to grow at the knuckles? But something else told her that to do so would be to cross a line that once crossed, would turn out bloody one way or the other, so she stood there, immobile, a slight whiff of fear wafting off of her.

Milak drew herself up to her full six feet eleven inches height, though lacking fur and nearly growled her response:
"I'm downhearted and insulted to hear my culture is something you'd jeer at, Major. Pray we don't meet on the battlefield. I do not believe you'd be jeering at me then."
She strode off, out of sickbay to cool off.

Hailey looked over at Cao, then back at the door, "What'd I say? I was just trying to get her to smile."

"Ma'am, she turns into a werewolf. Let's not give her any reason to bare her teeth at us." Cao said flatly. "I think you pissed her off when you told her to look up at you. I have no idea why that would get someone angry. She's a few neutrons shy of a neutrino field." He said dismissively.
"So.. yeah. let's not piss off Fluffy." He looked up and belatedly remembered to add "Ma'am."

The look from Hailey went frozen, "Lieutenant, last I checked, she's an officer of Starfleet, just like you, just like me. Did she misunderstand me? Yes. Guess what? She has to gain control of herself, because I guaran-damn-tee you that she's going to hear worse from some of the other officers and crew on this ship. Yes, her culture is different, so is Sergeant Valentine's, so we have to respect that, but she needs to get a tougher skin or else she's going to find herself off this ship or worse, in the brig for hurting or even killing another crewer. And, Lieutenant, the next time I hear you call someone a moronic idiot in any way, shape or form, will be the last day you're on this ship. Even if we're in deep space. Got it?"

Cao blinked and to his credit, sat up a tad straighter. "Um, yes Ma'am. However, I'm pretty sure it's true. She's ... off. And just so you know, my transfer is in. I'm out of here in 2 days. This is my last shift..sooo...." He smiled a bit. "But yeah, absolutely, what you said Ma'am. Deep Space." He laughed, though it was softly, and went back to his PaDD.
"Oh, OK, here. She's been in StarFleet Academy for literally half her life. Literally, as in how the word should be used. Wow. The other half she was well, a child. OK so at 8 years old she entered StarFleet. Her world's aging is much slower than Earth Standard. Canine Standard. What the Hell is THAT? It says that her culture is Canine Standards. Does that mean they go around sniffing each others' asses?"

A smile crept up on Hailey's face, though her eyes never changed. Anyone who saw the smile might have thought she was amused, but the eyes... "Lieutenant Junior Grade Li Cao." She enunciated each word of title and name, "You're not out of here in two days, you're out of here in two HOURS, and I mean off this ship. Oh yes, you think because you're leaving you can say or do whatever the hell you want? I was due to write a departure review tomorrow for you, but don't worry, I'll have it ready within the hour for before you're on you way to your new assignment. You were headed to the Artemis, but not anymore, you're going to the Hercules. I will not have you 'rewarded' for being an inconsiderate ass who has NO respect for others that come from a background not our own and if at all possible, you're going to be returning to Ensign Cao. I will let Commander Devers, your new C-M-O on the Hercules, make THAT decision, but I suspect he'll listen to me." She stabbed her finger towards the door, "You are relieved, Lieutenant."

Siobahn turned the last corner before sickbay, side stepping quickly as an impressively large vaguely canine shaped creature strode upright past her, clearly far from impressed. She shook her head, her eyes widening slightly before shaking her head again. No, she wasn't seeing things, there was actually, what at first glance, almost looked like a giant dog storming through the corridors. "Well..." she murmured quietly to herself before resuming the last of the short distance to sickbay.

Just as she was about to enter, the doors opened and Cao stormed out, muttering expletives. Again, stepping back out of his way, Siobahn raised an eyebrow as he shot a dark look in her direction, muttered something about 'marine bitch' and continued storming away.

Stepping into Sickbay, Siobahn looked around quickly, her gaze finally settling on Hailey standing in the middle of the room, her own expression equally thunderous. "What the hell did I miss?" she asked.

"That insufferable arrogant prick!" Hailey fumed, "I'm glad he's getting off this ship, because he thinks he knows everything, thinks he can do anything and get away with it. And then he pulls this crap with a new officer just because she's not like anything we've seen before. I screwed up, said something that was taken the wrong way, and then after she left, he called her a moron. I'm not having any of that, so let him wallow in obscurity on the Hercules."

"Fair enough," Siobahn replied easily, setting the medical kit in her hand back onto the bench. "So, new officer, I assume that would be the other..." she paused, not entirely sure how to describe what she had seen "individual?" she finally came up with, "that was just thundering through the corridors as well?"

"Yeah.. I need to find out what she is, where she comes from..." Hailey murmured, "But, that's for later. We're still on for tonight? I'll have the bridge to myself and two others after twenty-hundred if you wanted to join me?"

"Absolutely," Siobahn replied with a smile. "Go on, I'll see you then..."
