Location: Engineering
Timeline: June 15,2399 0800

ON:

Looking at her PADD, she headed out into engineering to do her rounds and meet her other engineering crew members. This was going to be an experience in as much that this crew was comprised of many different species and she would have to get to know each and every one of them. She walked upon a young...man...atleast that is what she thought, who was busy repairing a console. "Excuse me, what happened here?, she inquired.

"Blown power relay." the cobalt-blue furred being replied quickly, almost up to his waist in the open panel work. "Registered a spike along the primary junction about a minute ago, found a loose connection here was the issue. Went to resolve it, and once the connection was solid the power feed just jumped through. Turns out one of the connection braces was installed incorrectly, and was overheating." and with that, the engineer hopped back out and onto his feet, holding a mangled mess of metal and wire in his prosthetic limb. The limb itself was an ancient relic from a time long past, the Arctile Series Seven industrial prosthetic. Two thick fingers and a thumb, textured grip pads for purchase on a surface, and no touch reception along the entire limb. Though the odd part wasn't the ancient limb, but the care and work that obviously went into maintenance. The limb was smooth in its motions and almost silent in its workings. The only blemishes upon the limb were along the primary forearm plate, where two series of scratch marks could be seen in the steel. Hexagonal patterns, likely Ferengi number sequences.

They seemed to match the style of the hexagonal number sequence on his dogtag that hung from a thin collar he wore.

"I'll have the console up and running in five minutes, tops, now that I've got the problem piece chief."

Totally flabbergasted by what he said was not the only thing that floored her. It was the fact that he resembled a ferret or mink in his appearance. She knew that she was going to meet several new species out here, but none of what she had just encountered. This was going to make her take a trip to the counselor and soon. She had to get a grip on all this and right at the moment it was just a bit to much to take in all at once. "Well I guess...I mean, oh hell son you are doing a fine job and any time you need something just holler. Anyone of these big lugs here would be happy to help you and lend a hand. Oh by the way, exactly what is your specialty field if you have one? Most of the guys here have their fields and I don't see why you shouldn't have one also", she said, still looking at him with interest. "Sometime when you have the spare time I would love to hear about your...species...if you would. I am certain that I am going to meet several new ones out here too", she added, still looking at him in a curious manner.

"My major is Gravity Generation and Intrinsic Field study, in addition to the required reading for antimatter reactor engineer certification. I minored in Hologram and Replicator Theory until the teacher asked me to leave the class after I doodled a design for a shipyard on a bar napkin that essentially built ships in a colossal replicator matrix." he chuckled, "I later found out that the teacher's nephew worked at one of the shuttle shipyards and I essentially doodled him out of a job."

"As for the Thux... I can tell you everything I know over a cup of coffee. We're a good people, solid and dependable and there for you in a scrap." he started with a smirk that seemed to almost be a permanent feature. Seems this guy was almost always in a good mood. "Though there's not a lot of us left." that permanent smirk? Yeah, it started to droop a bit, "But hey, that's a conversation for coffee, not for moping around when there's work to be done. He offered her a his living hand, "Name's Cordale. Need something fixed or rigged? I'm your Thux."

"Well I think I can fit you in with a few of my people who dabble in your sort of technological areas and it might be a good idea to get to know them in the process. By all means please proceed with your work. I bet I can help you out though with that prosthesis of yours. It looks like you could use an upgrade don't you? I think William and Charlie can help you out with that. You deserve an upgrade" she said thoughtfully looking at him.

"Always good to work with folks who appreciate the Gravity of things. Yeah, I know, terrible." the Thux chuckled, but then the chuckle died a bit, "With respects, upgrade refused. The ole Six and I have been through a lot, and I've had it for so long that... I'm used to seeing it in the mirror when I wake up." he started, "Plus, it has sentimental value."

"PLUS... no touch reception. Do you know how often I reach into something as an engineer that would HURT if I could feel it?" he immediately shifted to something more comical, rather than dwell on the sentimentality.

"As you wish son. As you were ", she said, and watched him head off to get the replacement part. 'Now...THERE goes a young kid who loves his work' she chuckled to herself, and continued to move out into engineering.
